The Part-Time Event Coordinator role in our Columbus, GA store is an integral part of providing a memorable and engaging experience for our guests. This position focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes, to ensure a stress-free, fun, and creative environment for participants of all ages. The individual in this role will work directly with customers, assisting them in shopping and crafting, while also performing operational duties to maintain the high standards of store presentation and customer service synonymous with the Michaels brand.
This role requires a dynamic person with strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to engage with diverse age groups—from young children to senior guests. The Event Coordinator must be adept at juggling multiple events simultaneously, handling administrative tasks like client communication and event planning paperwork, and being ready to adapt plans according to client feedback. Ensuring client satisfaction and upholding cleanliness and safety standards within the store is paramount.
In addition to event coordination, the role includes helping customers shop, providing fast and friendly checkout experiences, promoting the Michaels Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, and assisting with omni-channel sales processes such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The candidate will participate actively in operational processes such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, and recovery, while supporting shrink and safety programs.

Job Requirements
- Ability to remain standing for long periods
- Ability to move throughout the store
- Regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching
- Ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves using ladder
- Must satisfy federal, state, and local legal requirements
- Availability to work nights, weekends and early mornings
- Physical capability to perform essential job functions
- Must be able to engage positively with customers of all ages
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and nonverbally
- Prior experience in retail or customer service preferred

Job Duties
- Plan and coordinate multiple events at once including children's birthday parties and craft classes
- Engage with clients of all ages by creating an environment of fun and creativity
- Demonstrate and instruct party participants in craft projects and activities such as face painting
- Facilitate and implement party add-ons like goody bags and balloons
- Communicate events with clients and store team members
- Complete administrative tasks including answering emails and making phone calls
- Adjust event plans based on client feedback and create backup plans
- Ensure client satisfaction and uphold cleanliness and safety standards
- Help customers shop and locate products
- Provide fast and friendly checkout experience
- Promote rewards program and credit card enrollments
- Educate customers on Voice of Customer survey
- Assist with omni channel processes including BOPIS and Ship From Store
- Participate in truck unload, stocking, and planogram processes
- Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
- Perform Store in Stock Optimization and AD set duties
- Support shrink and safety programs
- Adhere to SOPs and company policies
- Interact positively and respectfully with customers and team members
- Cross trained in custom framing selling and production
- Participate in daily store cleanliness activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
