Job Description
Michaels is the leading destination for creativity and celebration in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the best place for all things creative, offering an extensive range of crafting supplies, framing merchandise, and event experiences. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. The company’s purpose is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by providing high-quality products and memorable events that inspire customers of all ages to express themselves through crafting and artistic activities.
At the Michaels store in Buffalo, NY, the Event Coordinator role is an engaging and dynamic position focused on planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other creative gatherings. This position requires a passionate individual who can create a fun, stress-free, and engaging atmosphere for guests while delivering exceptional customer service. Additionally, the role involves supporting store operations such as unloading trucks, performing merchandise duties, maintaining store recovery standards, and adhering to company protocols to ensure a seamless shopping experience.
As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for orchestrating multiple events simultaneously, managing everything from client communication to party execution. This includes demonstrating and instructing craft activities, performing face painting, coordinating party add-ons like balloons and goody bags, and ensuring all events meet Michaels' quality standards. The role also demands strong organizational skills to handle administrative duties such as email correspondence, phone communication, and paperwork management related to event planning.
Customer experience is central to this role, and you will help customers shop efficiently, provide product solutions, and promote the benefits of Michaels’ Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards. Supporting omnichannel processes like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) is also key to ensuring customers receive a smooth, comprehensive service. The position involves routine store maintenance, including merchandising, stocking, and participating in safety and shrink programs.
This role is tailored for someone energetic and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience working with children and managing children’s events is highly valued, as is retail and customer service experience. Physically, the job requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods, move throughout the store, and handle tasks involving bending, lifting, and reaching. Working hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings to accommodate event schedules and store needs.
In return, Michaels offers a competitive base pay ranging from $16.00 to $18.80 per hour and provides benefits including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. Michaels is dedicated to inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations to ensure all qualified individuals can excel in their roles. This role not only offers a unique opportunity to be part of a creative community but also to contribute meaningfully to customer experiences that inspire creativity and celebration within the local Buffalo community.
