Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a premier destination in North America for all things creative and celebratory, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with an expanding online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has cultivated a rich legacy as a leader in the arts and crafts retail industry. Owned by The Michaels Companies, Inc., the brand also encompasses Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, deepening Michaels' expertise and offerings within the creative marketplace.
At Michaels, the mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration — a purpose that underscores every facet of their expansive retail operations and customer engagements. The company prides itself on being a vibrant community hub where customers can explore artistic inspiration, gather materials for crafting projects, and partake in workshops and events that nurture creativity across all age groups. Michaels' commitment to inclusion, innovation, and superior customer service makes it an employer of choice for individuals passionate about arts, crafts, and community engagement.
The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in Columbus, GA, is a dynamic and multi-faceted position central to delivering memorable, stress-free, and enjoyable experiences for guests. This full-time retail role emphasizes the planning, coordination, and facilitation of a variety of events, including children's birthday parties and crafting classes, ensuring each event runs smoothly and leaves a lasting positive impression. Within this role, the coordinator is the face of the brand during events, engaging guests of all ages—from young children to seniors—by creating an environment rich in fun, creativity, and community spirit.
Beyond event execution, the role involves a blend of operational support and customer service responsibilities. Successful candidates will be expected to assist customers in locating products and providing helpful, friendly shopping guidance. The Event Coordinator also ensures speedy and courteous checkout experiences, helping promote Michaels’ Rewards program and private label credit cards to enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction. This position requires a hands-on approach to store operations, including unloading truck deliveries, restocking merchandise, and maintaining store recovery and cleanliness standards.
Key to this role is superb organizational and communication skills, enabling the Event Coordinator to handle multiple ongoing events, respond promptly to client feedback, and coordinate efficiently with store teammates. The ability to perform creative demonstration activities such as face painting and craft project instruction is highly valued, alongside the capacity to manage party logistics, including add-ons like goody bags and balloons, in line with the company’s standards.
Michaels supports its team members with a comprehensive benefits package that underscores its commitment to employee well-being and satisfaction. Eligible team members can access medical, dental, and vision coverage along with telemedicine and flexible spending accounts. The company also offers a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, tuition and adoption assistance, commuter benefits, and various voluntary insurance plans. Everyday perks include employee discounts and access to partner discount programs, fostering a supportive and rewarding work environment.
The store environment is designed to be welcoming and upbeat, although it involves physical activity such as standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and moving throughout the store. Michaels is committed to inclusive employment and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure all team members can succeed.
This role is perfect for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who thrive in customer-facing settings, enjoy working with children and families, and have a passion for arts and crafts. The Event Coordinator will play a critical role in promoting Michaels as a fun, creative destination and ensuring every guest leaves with a smile and a great experience.
