Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer in North America focused on arts, crafts, framing, floral, and home décor. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Known as the best place for all things creative, Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration by providing customers with a wide variety of products and experiences that inspire artistic expression and meaningful transformation of their cultures and communities. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing their position as a premier crafting destination.

At the College Station, Texas location, Michaels is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Event Coordinator to join the team. This full-time role focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple events within the store setting, including popular children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other in-store workshops. The primary goal of this position is to create a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests of all ages, blending creativity with exceptional customer service. The Event Coordinator will play a pivotal role in not only delivering enjoyable events but also assisting customers with their shopping experience, supporting store operational tasks, and upholding the brand’s high standards.

This position requires multitasking between event management and retail responsibilities, such as helping customers locate products, providing fast and friendly checkout service, and participating in merchandise recovery and maintenance. Strong communication skills are vital as the coordinator will need to correspond with clients and store team members, adjust event plans according to feedback, and ensure client satisfaction. Duties extend to organizing event add-ons like goody bags and balloons while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events.

The ideal candidate for the Event Coordinator position will possess an energetic and enthusiastic personality, excellent interpersonal skills, and experience with children's events or party planning. Proficiency in customer service and retail environments is essential to thrive in this role, as is the ability to handle job stress and maintain a positive demeanor even in challenging situations. This role demands organizational skills, creative problem-solving, and the ability to engage effectively with individuals ranging in age from young children to seniors.

Physically, the position involves standing for long periods, lifting heavy boxes, accessing high shelves, and moving throughout the store in a retail setting that may include climate-controlled public areas as well as stock rooms that are not climate controlled. Work schedules may include nights, weekends, and early mornings. Michaels is committed to inclusion and reasonable accommodations, ensuring all employees can succeed in their roles.

Michaels offers a comprehensive benefit package including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with employer match, employee assistance programs, tuition and adoption assistance, as well as everyday perks such as employee discounts and access to partner discount programs. As an equal opportunity employer, Michaels champions diversity and strives to create an inclusive environment for all team members and customers to create, innovate, and grow together.
