Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail company headquartered in Irving, Texas. Founded in 1973, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and in Canada, serving as the premier destination for creative products and services in North America. The company also owns Artistree, a specialty manufacturer of custom framing merchandise, further enriching its offerings to customers who seek both creativity and quality in their projects. Michaels is dedicated to fostering creativity by providing everything needed to create, celebrate, and enjoy artistic endeavors, fueling the joy and satisfaction derived from crafting and DIY projects.
This position is based in the Michaels store located in Orem - University, Utah, and involves working as an Event Coordinator and Customer Service Associate. The role is centered around planning, coordinating, and facilitating various festive and crafting events, including children’s birthday parties, within the store. This dynamic position is ideal for an energetic, enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with diverse age groups and fostering a joyful and creative environment. The Event Coordinator will be responsible for delivering an engaging and stress-free experience for guests, managing multiple events simultaneously, and providing exceptional customer service throughout the store. Duties range from administrative tasks such as responding to emails and phone calls, to hands-on event facilitation including craft demonstrations and party activity management.
In addition to event coordination, the role includes comprehensive customer service responsibilities such as assisting customers in locating products, providing checkout services, explaining the benefits of loyalty programs, and supporting omni-channel sales processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The position also requires the completion of operational tasks including truck unloading, stocking shelves, performing merchandise recovery, maintaining store cleanliness, and adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Success in this role requires excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to handle stressful situations with a positive and respectful attitude. The position demands physical activity, including prolonged standing, bending, lifting heavy items, ladder use, and movement throughout the store. Michaels emphasizes a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for both customers and team members, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork, inclusion, and compliance with relevant laws and company policies.
Michaels prioritizes the wellbeing of its team by providing comprehensive benefits such as health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, available to both full-time and part-time employees. The company is committed to equal opportunity employment and making reasonable accommodations to support employees with disabilities. At Michaels, working together means being part of a community dedicated to creativity, innovation, and betterment. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to that vision while growing professionally within the vibrant retail and event coordination industry.
