The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in Rochester, MN, is a dynamic and multifaceted position designed to create memorable and enjoyable experiences for guests, particularly through planning and facilitating events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This part-time position offers an hourly pay range of $12.00 to $14.10 and may be eligible for overtime compensation based on applicable state and local laws.

As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for orchestrating multiple events simultaneously, ensuring a fun, stress-free, and engaging atmosphere for participants ranging from young children to older adults. This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction and attention to detail. Your duties will include instructing guests on craft projects, performing creative activities like face painting, and managing party enhancements such as goody bags and balloon decorations. You will also handle important administrative tasks including client communication, scheduling, and contingency planning to accommodate last-minute changes.

Beyond event management, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the overall customer experience at the store by assisting customers in locating products, providing knowledgeable advice, and facilitating quick and friendly checkout processes. You will engage customers by promoting the rewards program and credit card enrollments, educating them about the Voice of Customer survey, and supporting various omnichannel retail processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS).

Additionally, your responsibilities will extend to operational tasks such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, maintaining store recovery standards, and participating in daily store cleanliness activities. This role also involves support for shrink and safety programs, adherence to standard operating procedures and company policies, and cross-training in custom framing sales and production.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate enthusiasm, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain positive in a fast-paced retail environment. Experience working with children and organizing children's events is highly desirable, along with strong organizational and communication capabilities. The physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and moving throughout the store, with accommodations available for those who require them.

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events at once including children’s birthday parties and other craft classes or events
  • engage with clients of all ages by creating an environment of fun and creativity
  • demonstrate and instruct party participants in the completion of craft projects and perform face painting and other activities
  • facilitate and implement party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons to company standards
  • communicate events with clients and store team members
  • complete administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork
  • adjust plans and events based on client’s feedback and needs
  • create backup or emergency plans to be executed as needed
  • ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events
  • uphold the company’s cleanliness and safety standards including setup and cleanup before and after each event
  • help customers shop, locate products, and provide them with solutions
  • provide fast and friendly checkout experience
  • engage customers on benefits of rewards program and private label credit cards and complete enrollments
  • educate customers on Voice of Customer survey
  • assist with omnichannel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store
  • participate in truck unload, stocking, and planogram processes
  • complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • perform store in stock optimization and AD set duties as assigned
  • support shrink and safety programs
  • adhere to standard operating procedures and company programs to ensure compliance
  • interact with others in an accepting and respectful manner and promote commitment to the organization’s vision and values
  • cross trained in custom framing selling and production
  • participate in daily store cleanliness activities including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restrooms maintenance
  • perform other duties as assigned
