Job Description

Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer in North America, dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. As the go-to destination for all things creative, Michaels offers an extensive range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, home décor, seasonal goods, and more. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further expanding its footprint in the creative retail industry. Michaels prides itself on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where customers of all ages can explore and express their creativity in a fun, supportive setting.

The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels in Ft. Laud-Aventura, Florida, is a dynamic, customer-focused position designed to create memorable experiences for guests while supporting the operational needs of the store. This full-time role involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including kids' birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring each event is stress-free, engaging, and enjoyable. The Event Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for event clients, helping to bring creative celebrations to life within the store’s vibrant and energetic atmosphere.

In this role, the Event Coordinator is responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously, engaging attendees of all ages to foster an environment of fun and creativity. Duties include demonstrating craft projects, face painting, and planning party add-ons like goody bags and balloons according to company standards. Effective communication with clients and team members is essential, alongside managing administrative tasks such as responding to emails and making phone calls. The position requires adaptability to client feedback and the ability to create contingency plans to handle unexpected situations, ensuring client satisfaction at every event.

Besides event coordination, this position actively supports customer experience in the retail environment. The Event Coordinator helps customers locate products, provides fast and friendly checkout service, educates customers on loyalty programs and surveys, and assists with omnichannel services such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Additional operational responsibilities include truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, maintaining planograms, and supporting shrink and safety programs to uphold company standards and compliance.

The role demands excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to handle job stress positively, and a commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive atmosphere for both customers and team members. Candidates should have retail or customer service experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and a passion for working with children and coordinating events. Physically, the role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, perform lifting and stretching, and work in various store environments, including climate-controlled public areas and stockrooms.

Michaels values diversity and inclusion, ensuring reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities. The company offers robust benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, highlighting its commitment to the wellbeing of its team members. Michaels strives to be an equitable employer, fostering creativity and innovation among its workforce and customers alike.
