Job Description
Michaels is a leading arts and crafts retail company known for its dedication to providing a joyful and creative shopping experience. With over 1,300 stores across the United States and Canada, Michaels serves as the go-to destination for hobbyists, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone looking to explore their creative side. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels not only offers a wide assortment of crafting materials but also specializes in custom framing through its subsidiary, Artistree. The company is driven by its purpose to fuel creativity and celebration, making creative projects accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and skill levels.
This position is a part-time role based in the Tulsa-Broken Arrow, OK store location. The role primarily focuses on event coordination, customer service, and operational duties within the Michaels store. The candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events including children's birthday parties and craft classes. These events are designed to create a fun, engaging, and stress-free environment for guests, nurturing creativity while maintaining the high standards of the Michaels brand.
As an Event Coordinator at Michaels, the individual will engage with clients ranging in age from young children to seniors, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience. The role involves hands-on participation in crafting activities such as face painting and guiding participants through projects, as well as managing event logistics like goody bags and balloons. The coordinator must communicate effectively with clients and store team members, handle administrative tasks such as emails and phone calls, and be adaptable to changing client needs. Event preparation and cleanup while upholding safety and cleanliness standards are also critical aspects.
In addition to event coordination, the role comes with significant customer-facing responsibilities. Providing excellent customer service by assisting customers in locating products, educating them on benefits like the Rewards program and private label credit cards, and ensuring a quick and friendly checkout experience are key parts of the job. The candidate will also support Omni channel shopping options including buy online pickup in store (BOPIS) and ship from store (SFS) processes.
Operational duties include participating in truck unloads, stocking, merchandise recovery, and maintaining store presentation through planograms, all essential to meet company brand promises. The coordinator will also contribute to shrink and safety programs, adhere to standard operating procedures, and model positive behavior and respect within the team environment. Cross-training opportunities include custom framing selling and production.
The work environment is fast-paced and requires standing and moving throughout the store, with occasional heavy lifting and usage of ladders for stocking. Michaels emphasizes inclusivity, and reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals. This position requires excellent people skills, organizational abilities, and the capability to handle stress while interacting effectively with guests and co-workers. Prior retail or customer service experience, especially involving children's events, is highly preferred.
Michaels supports its team members with comprehensive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace where all employees and customers can innovate and succeed together.
