Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retailer in the arts and crafts industry, widely recognized as the top destination for creativity and celebration in North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing its product offerings. Michaels is dedicated to fostering a fun and imaginative environment where customers can express their creativity through a wide range of arts and crafts supplies, classes, and events. Committed to inclusion, innovation, and supporting team members, Michaels strives to be the best place for all things creative, inviting customers and employees alike to create, innovate, and improve together.

This position, based in the Thousand Oaks, CA location, is a dynamic role focused on event coordination within the store. The primary responsibility is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate various events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other engaging activities. The role is designed to create a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests of all ages—from young children to senior adults—by delivering outstanding customer service and fostering an environment of fun and creativity. Beyond event planning, this role includes administrative duties such as client communication, managing party add-ons, and administrative tasks like answering emails and keeping records. The position also involves daily operational tasks, including assisting customers with shopping, maintaining merchandise standards, participating in truck unload and stocking activities, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience.

This full-time or part-time role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $17.50 to $20.60, reflecting the emphasis on customer interaction, event management, and store support. This role requires energetic and enthusiastic individuals who excel in customer service, have experience managing children’s events, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The work environment blends retail duties with event coordination responsibilities, and candidates must be physically able to stand for long periods, lift heavy boxes, and work in various store conditions including the use of ladders and some outdoor tasks.

Michaels prides itself on being an equal opportunity employer, actively accommodating individuals with disabilities and promoting a workplace that is inclusive and respectful. The company complies with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act to ensure fair treatment of applicants with criminal histories. The role is critical to enhancing customer experience and reinforcing the brand’s promises by maintaining high safety, cleanliness, and service standards during events and store operations.
