Job Description

Michaels is a leading retail company specializing in arts and crafts materials, serving as the premier destination for creativity and celebration across North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores in 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, along with a robust online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, enhancing its leadership position in the creative supply market. As a recognized industry leader, Michaels is dedicated to providing a diverse range of crafting supplies and services that inspire customers to express their creativity and bring their ideas to life. The company’s mission is rooted in fueling the joy of creativity and celebration, making it a trusted destination for customers of all ages looking to engage in a variety of crafting activities.

The role offered at the Michaels store in Tampa-Carrollwood, FL, centers on event coordination and customer service within the retail environment. This position is pivotal in planning, coordinating, and facilitating events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes to create a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering friendly customer service by assisting customers in shopping and helping them find products within the store, as well as ensuring a fast and pleasant checkout process. Additionally, the role involves operational responsibilities including unloading truck deliveries, performing merchandise duties, and maintaining store recovery standards to uphold the company’s brand promises.

In this event coordination role, the team member will plan and manage multiple events simultaneously, ranging from birthday parties for children to a broad spectrum of craft classes and events tailored for guests aged 4 to 94 and beyond. Engagement with clients is key, cultivating an atmosphere that encourages fun and creativity. The role requires instructing participants in craft projects, performing activities such as face painting, and managing party add-ons including goody bags and balloons according to company standards. Effective communication with clients and store team members ensures smooth execution of events, while administrative duties such as responding to emails, making phone calls, and completing relevant paperwork are also integral.

Customer experience is a core focus, requiring attentive assistance in product location and purchasing processes. The coordinator supports omnichannel retail strategies including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) services. Responsibilities also encompass participation in the physical stocking and merchandising processes, recovery and maintenance of merchandise displays, and adherence to safety and shrink prevention programs. The position demands compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policies to meet legal and organizational standards. To maintain a positive environment, the team member is expected to interact respectfully and professionally, projecting a positive image and serving as a role model for fellow associates.

The role requires weekend availability, physical stamina to remain on feet for extended periods, and the capability to handle lifting, bending, and climbing tasks typical of a retail setting. Michaels underscores its commitment to inclusion by offering reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and emphasizes the importance of teamwork and mutual respect among its staff.

Michaels offers competitive benefits to support its team members and their families, including access to a 401(k) plan with employer matching, medical, dental, and vision coverage, telemedicine services, and flexible spending accounts. Additional support programs include tuition assistance, adoption assistance, commuter benefits, and various voluntary insurance options. Everyday perks such as employee discounts and partner discount programs further enhance the work experience at Michaels. Through these offerings, Michaels strives to create an inclusive and supportive work environment that fosters personal and professional growth.
