Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, along with a robust online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. As the best place for all things creative, Michaels serves a diverse customer base ranging from hobbyists and artists to families looking to host memorable events. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels' commitment to fostering creativity, community, and inclusivity is central to its brand and customer experience.
This Part-Time Event Coordinator role at the Michaels store located in N. ORL-Magnolia, LA, offers a unique opportunity to engage customers by planning, coordinating, and executing various events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. The role focuses on creating stress-free, fun, and engaging experiences for guests of all ages, from children to seniors. This position demands a dynamic individual who is energetic, enthusiastic, and skilled in managing multiple events simultaneously while delivering exceptional customer service.
As an Event Coordinator, your responsibilities will extend beyond event management to include a hands-on role in assisting customers with shopping needs, delivering speedy and friendly checkout service, and maintaining operational excellence within the store. You will be entrusted with setting up, breaking down, and cleaning up before and after events, ensuring the space meets Michaels’ cleanliness and safety standards. You will also be involved in carrying out administrative tasks like answering client emails, making phone calls, and maintaining effective communication with store teams and clients.
Moreover, the role requires proficiency in engaging clients with creative craft activities, face painting, and coordinating additional event enhancements such as balloons and goody bags. Flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving are key attributes, as you will be required to adjust plans based on client feedback and prepare backup plans in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Customer experience is paramount at Michaels, and as an Event Coordinator, you will be on the front lines providing support in product location, educating customers on rewards programs and Private Label Credit Cards, and assisting with Omni channel services such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). You will participate in inventory and merchandising tasks and adhere to company policies, safety programs, and operational procedures.
This role is ideal for individuals with excellent people skills and experience in retail or customer service, particularly those with experience working with children and organizing children’s events. Effective communication, organizational skills, and a positive attitude are essential to succeed. Physical stamina is required to manage standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and moving around the store environment.
Michaels strongly supports its team members, offering a comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) with employer match, medical, dental and vision coverage, employee assistance resources, and tuition assistance among others. This position is equal opportunity and committed to accommodating individuals with disabilities to perform their job functions effectively. The role supports Michaels’ mission to foster creativity and provide a joyful, inspiring environment for all customers and team members.
