Job Description
Peckham Industries Inc. (PII) is a deeply rooted family-run business that has been thriving since its inception in 1924. With nearly a century of dedicated service, PII has established a reputation as a trusted supplier of construction materials, products, and services spanning various communities. The company's strong "family by choice" ethos helps foster a sense of belonging and commitment not only among employees but also within the communities it serves. PII operates an extensive network that includes hot mix asphalt and ready-mix concrete plants, quarries, and liquid asphalt terminals. These facilities enable the company to provide high-quality materials and customized solutions to an expansive customer base engaged in road construction and maintenance. Beyond materials, Peckham Industries is actively involved in construction operations including paving, road reclamation, and the production and erection of precast and prestressed concrete structures such as multi-level parking facilities, specialty buildings, and bridge components.
Joining Peckham Industries means becoming part of a mission-driven organization that values purpose, community service, and customer growth. The company prioritizes education, innovation, and technology application with a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, inclusiveness, and profitability. Employees at PII work in an environment that encourages mutual respect, safety, and professional growth, cultivating a workplace culture where dedication, integrity, and efficiency are core values.
The role of a Parts Runner at Peckham Industries is pivotal to maintaining efficient field operations and maintenance activities. This position is responsible for ensuring that critical parts, tools, equipment, and supplies are delivered promptly and accurately to locations across the Eastern Region. It involves a blend of transportation duties, material handling, equipment mobilization, vendor coordination, and shop support activities. By performing these tasks effectively, the Parts Runner helps maximize crew productivity and keeps assets operational.
Key responsibilities include deploying maintenance inventory using company vehicles, preparing and loading equipment and materials, and ensuring load security in compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards. The role demands commitment to workplace safety and organizational efficiency, often requiring the Parts Runner to plan and schedule delivery routes and tasks independently. This position also involves communication and coordination with vendors to manage orders, deliveries, and discrepancies. Maintaining a clean and organized shop environment is part of the daily routine, along with conducting vehicle inspections and adhering to all company safety policies and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
This job may be based at either the Palmer, MA or Westfield, MA facility and requires regular travel throughout the Eastern Region. It is a physically demanding position involving lifting heavy objects, working near moving mechanical parts, and enduring long periods of standing, along with other physical activities like bending and reaching. Peckham Industries emphasizes a safety-first culture and expects every employee to embrace and live by the organization's values: safety, integrity, dedication, and efficiency. The company is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and offers accommodations for applicants with disabilities.
