The role of a BTC Part Time Custodian at Baptist Temple Church is critical for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of the church’s facilities. This part-time, at-will hourly position involves working assigned hours as directed by the Head Custodian, Homero Martinez, and contributing to a safe and welcoming environment that supports the church's various activities and community outreach programs. The custodian plays an essential role in ensuring that the church's indoor and outdoor spaces are clean, orderly, and secure.

The responsibilities of the BTC Part Time Custodian include routine custodial tasks such as dusting, floor care involving sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing. It also includes thorough cleaning and maintenance of carpets, including spot and stain removal and the use of specialized equipment like shampooers. Chemical safety and proper use are emphasized with strict adherence to Safety Data Sheets and securing chemicals properly after use. Glass care, trash disposal, bathroom sanitation, and classroom and common space maintenance are also key duties, requiring attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.

The custodian is expected to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, dress appropriately, and be a responsible, organized self-starter. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The position requires flexibility, as scheduled hours range from 12 to 26 per week, with shifts primarily on Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Additionally, there may be opportunities to fill in other custodial roles, potentially adding up to 250 hours. The custodian is also responsible for managing access to all spaces during their shift, including securing doors, activating and deactivating alarms, and preparing areas for use with proper setup and cleanup.
