This part-time position as a Starbucks Barista is designed for energetic individuals passionate about coffee, customer service, and teamwork. The role involves supporting a store environment that emphasizes teamwork, continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, and high service standards. Starbucks Baristas are the face of the brand, welcoming and connecting with customers to deliver a memorable Starbucks Experience. The successful candidate will prepare specialty coffee beverages and maintain store operations to Starbucks standards, ensuring cleanliness, merchandising, and equipment maintenance are diligently performed. One critical component of the role is the ability to learn and demonstrate all performance standards by completing initial store training and passing the barista certification with a score of 90% or higher. This role requires flexibility in working hours, including availability for morning, midday, closing, night shifts, weekends, and holidays based on store needs.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or general education development (GED) degree equivalent is required
related experience and/or advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
strong communication and interpersonal skills are required
food handler certificate from the County of San Diego preferred
must be able to read, write and understand English
requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives
ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees
requires good voice quality that is conversational and professional
ability to apply basic math concepts such as calculating discounts, portions, percentages, and volume
must be able to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions
must be able to multi-task, prioritize work and pay attention to detail
must be able to utilize a computer
requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and food service equipment
must have the ability to talk and hear
must be able to operate food service equipment such as slicers, mixers, knives, ovens, and steamers

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

Welcomes and connects with every customer to provide excellent customer service
discovers customer needs and appropriately suggests products to enhance service and meet sales goals
assists customers in selection and purchase of specialty coffee beverages and whole bean sales if applicable
responds to customers' needs and says thank you to every customer
demonstrates 'just say yes' behavior when taking care of customer needs
maintains quality store operations
prepares a variety of customer beverage orders such as espresso drinks and coffee of the week to Starbucks standards
follows store policies and procedures for operational flow at each station
performs cleaning tasks in accordance with duty rosters and cleaning standards and works as a team player
presents oneself professionally and demonstrates clear communication by using star skills with all customer and partner interactions
follows standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating and storing all products
performs equipment maintenance in accordance with preventive maintenance checklist
follows cash handling and register procedures
follows inventory stocking and recording guidelines
learns and demonstrates creating the Starbucks Experience
learns and demonstrates all performance standards by completing initial store training and passing barista certification with a score of 90% or better
learns seasonal Starbucks promotional drinks and merchandise
complies with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws regarding employment, safety, and health
performs other duties as assigned
