Job Description

The University of Notre Dame is a prestigious higher education institution renowned not only for its academic excellence but also for its vibrant, mission-driven community. Rooted deeply in a tradition of excellence and inspired by its Catholic character, the University prioritizes fostering a supportive environment where every employee is valued and nurtured as a whole person—mind, body, and spirit. This commitment to care and belonging creates a culture that encourages well-being and personal growth, empowering staff to make meaningful contributions not only within the campus but also in the wider world. The University of Notre Dame is recognized nationally, having earned the distinction of being ranked number one on the Forbes Best Large Employer list, a testament to its dedication to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive workplace where employees feel supported and valued members of the Notre Dame community.

The University’s Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division plays a critical role in supporting the overall mission by overseeing event management, hospitality services, and customer service functions across campus. Within this division is Rohr’s, a beloved dining establishment at Notre Dame that offers exceptional food and beverage services characterized by Irish hospitality and a warm community atmosphere. The part-time Server position at Rohr’s represents a unique opportunity for candidates who are passionate about delivering outstanding dining experiences in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Servers at Rohr’s are more than just food servers; they are frontline ambassadors who set the tone for guest experiences, ensuring that every dining interaction is marked by promptness, professionalism, and genuine warmth.

As a Server at Rohr’s, you will be entrusted with providing courteous and efficient service to a diverse community of guests composed of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Your responsibilities extend beyond taking orders; they involve anticipating guest needs, clearly communicating menu details, and working collaboratively with kitchen and bar staff to maintain seamless service flow. The ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining a positive and respectful demeanor is essential. This position offers flexibility in scheduling, allowing students or community members to gain valuable professional experience while contributing to a storied university tradition. Compensation includes an hourly wage plus tips, making it a rewarding role financially as well.

Furthermore, working at Rohr’s means joining a workplace that values personal integrity, empathy, and self-awareness. Employees are supported in their development and encouraged to embody the values that reflect the University’s Catholic identity and commitment to being a force for good in the world. The role demands physical stamina, as it requires standing for extended periods and performing tasks involving food safety and proper handling protocols. Those with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, the ability to work independently, and a desire to foster an enjoyable dining atmosphere will find this role fulfilling and aligned with their career aspirations.

Joining the University of Notre Dame means becoming part of a community where your contributions truly matter. Whether supporting significant campus events, enhancing hospitality services, or engaging with guests in meaningful ways, Rohr’s Server role offers an enriching, supportive, and impactful work environment.
