Job Description

The City of Anaheim Community Services Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents by providing a wide range of recreational, cultural, and educational programs. As a key part of its mission, the department offers numerous contract classes that cater to various interests and age groups, fostering community engagement and promoting wellness. Anaheim is a vibrant city in Orange County, California, known for its active community involvement and commitment to providing residents with diverse programming options. The Community Services Department plays an essential role in managing these programs effectively to ensure their success and accessibility to the public.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Program Specialist to join our team on a part-time, year-round basis. This role averages approximately 30 hours per week, with no guaranteed minimum number of hours. The position requires occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work to support community needs. The Senior Program Specialist will have a pivotal role in supporting the coordination and administration of the Contract Classes Program, which includes a variety of responsibilities from program planning to instructor management and public communication.

This position requires minimal supervision and demands a proactive individual capable of managing multiple tasks with precision and professionalism. The Senior Program Specialist will serve as a key point of contact for contract class instructors and patrons, ensuring the smooth operation of these programs through effective use of the CivicRec software for course scheduling, instructor payments, contract preparation, and insurance tracking. Additionally, the role involves marketing support by creating engaging content for various social media channels and contributing to the production of the quarterly Activity Guide, which highlights upcoming classes and community events. The incumbent will also perform class visitations and evaluations to maintain program quality and relevance.

The position carries significant responsibility for maintaining positive public relations by providing excellent customer service through direct interaction at the front counter, telephone, email, and mail. The Senior Program Specialist acts as an ambassador for the Community Services Department at public events, supporting community outreach and engagement efforts. Other essential duties include processing refunds, managing scholarship applications through the Anaheim Community Foundation, and assisting with general event planning and staff supervision.

Candidates for this position should have a strong administrative background combined with experience in recreation or community services programming. The ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment, along with excellent organizational and communication skills, is crucial. The ideal Senior Program Specialist will demonstrate a commitment to public service, attention to detail, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues, community members, and external partners.

This role belongs to the journey-level classification in the Recreation Services series, which requires program planning, staff supervision, and administration duties aligned with recreational service goals. Prior experience in contract management, community programming, and customer service is a significant advantage.

The City of Anaheim values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applicants who are passionate about community recreation services and who meet the qualifications to apply by the deadline. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a thriving community while developing your career in public service recreation management.
