Job Description
Michaels is a leading arts and crafts retailer in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a growing online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Irving, Texas. Michaels has established itself as the premier destination for creative individuals and families, offering a vast selection of products including art supplies, framing materials, decorative accessories, and craft kits. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer known for custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is deeply committed to fostering creativity and celebration through its products and services, providing a unique shopping experience that inspires customers of all ages to create, innovate, and celebrate life’s moments.
At the Seattle-Tacoma, WA location, Michaels is currently seeking an enthusiastic and organized Event Coordinator to join their team. This role is a perfect fit for someone who loves planning and facilitating events, especially those involving children’s birthday parties and arts and crafts classes. The position focuses on creating fun, engaging, and stress-free experiences for guests while maintaining excellent customer service standards throughout the store.
As an Event Coordinator at Michaels, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating multiple events simultaneously within the store. Your duties will include instructing participants in craft projects, performing face painting, and managing party extras such as goody bags and balloons, all while ensuring that these events meet company standards. You will also handle communication with clients and team members, complete administrative tasks like answering emails and making phone calls, and be prepared to adapt plans based on customer feedback or unexpected changes. A key part of this role includes ensuring client satisfaction and upholding the cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after each event.
Besides event coordination, this role requires providing outstanding customer service by assisting shoppers with finding products and offering creative solutions to their needs. You will also ensure a fast and friendly checkout experience for all customers. Additional responsibilities include supporting Omni channel processes such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), helping with truck unloads, stocking shelves, maintaining merchandise recovery, participating in store safety programs, and cross-training in custom framing selling and production.
The candidate must possess excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with a genuine enthusiasm for interacting with guests of all ages ranging from young children to seniors. Experience working with children and children's events is essential, as is a strong ability to handle job stress professionally and maintain positive interactions with both customers and peers. The role requires standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks including lifting, bending, and accessing high shelves.
Michaels offers a competitive base pay ranging from $17.50 to $20.60 per hour and emphasizes the wellbeing of its employees. Both full-time and part-time team members are eligible for robust benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company prides itself on being an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure a supportive work environment.
Joining Michaels as an Event Coordinator is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant retail environment that celebrates creativity and community involvement. You will be a vital part of delivering memorable crafting experiences that bring joy to customers while advancing your career in retail event planning and customer service.
