Job Description

The City of New Braunfels is a vibrant and growing community known for its commitment to quality public services and preserving the natural beauty of the area. Recognized as a two-time Texas Recreation and Park Society's Gold Medalist, the New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to delivering top-tier recreational opportunities and programs that enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike. At the heart of this dedication is DAS REC, the New Braunfels Recreation Center, a sprawling 77,000 square feet facility that offers a diverse range of amenities and activities tailored to meet the interests and needs of all age groups. DAS REC is more than just a recreation center; it serves as a hub for community engagement, health and wellness, and youth and adult sports, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The role of Recreation Coordinator at DAS REC is vital to maintaining the high standard of service and program delivery that the City of New Braunfels is known for. This position is designed for passionate and enthusiastic individuals eager to contribute to the community by organizing, instructing, and overseeing recreational sports and programs. Under general supervision, the Recreation Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring customer satisfaction and safety for employees, clients, and visitors. The position is non-exempt and offers a competitive hourly salary range of $14.43 to $17.31. It includes the rewarding experience of working within a facility that prides itself on cleanliness, safety, and the provision of engaging programs that promote physical activity, teamwork, and community spirit.

DAS REC's Recreation Coordinator is entrusted with a variety of responsibilities that include assisting in the delivery of youth and adult sports, camps, clinics, and other recreational services. This role involves a hands-on approach to facilitating programs in alignment with the City’s strategic goals, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and maintaining detailed records such as attendance, accident reports, and league rosters. The Coordinator also performs essential customer service functions by providing information, answering inquiries, and handling minor disciplinary issues in a professional and courteous manner. Event coordination, including set-up and tear-down for city-wide special events, is another important aspect of the position.

Candidates will benefit from a supportive work environment where collaboration with other city employees, facility lessees, and community partners is encouraged, fostering a cooperative atmosphere focused on delivering exceptional recreational experiences. The role demands adaptability to various work environments, including office settings and outdoor conditions, and requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. With an emphasis on safety and security sensitivity, this position is suitable for individuals committed to upholding the City’s core values of Integrity, Service, Visionary Leadership, Stewardship of Resources, and Cultural Heritage.

If you are looking to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic community setting while developing your skills in recreation program coordination, the New Braunfels Recreation Center invites you to become a valued member of their team. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a prestigious municipality that values culture, community involvement, and professional growth.
