Job Description
BlueSkies for Children is a nationally recognized leader in early care and education, known for setting standards of excellence and serving as a model program across the United States. Located in Oakland, it is the only child care center in the area accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), a prestigious accreditation that reflects its commitment to high-quality care and early childhood development. The organization provides a nurturing and enriching environment for children from infancy through age five, operating all day and throughout the year to support families and communities with dependable, high-standard child care. With its focus on comprehensive early childhood education, BlueSkies for Children equips young learners with foundational skills while fostering their emotional, social, and cognitive growth in a safe and stimulating environment.
BlueSkies for Children is currently seeking a part-time receptionist to join their team. This role is pivotal as the friendly and welcoming face of the office, engaging with children, parents, staff, and visitors while performing essential administrative and security functions. The receptionist will be stationed at the front office where they will provide consistent support to the community by answering inquiries, managing communication channels, and supporting teachers, parents, and other staff members with various office needs. This part-time position offers between 10 to 19 hours per week, typically from 2 PM to 5 PM, with pay ranging from $18.00 to $22.00 per hour. It is an excellent role for individuals seeking flexible employment, including those re-entering the workforce or individuals with gaps in their resumes.
Ideal candidates will possess strong interpersonal skills, emotional stability, and the ability to maintain composure in a busy office environment. Familiarity with office routines, equipment such as PCs, copiers, and phone systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications is required to handle the office's varied operational duties effectively. Experience with Salesforce or other donor tracking systems is a plus, reflecting the organization’s engagement with community partnerships and fundraising activities. This role demands reliability, a professional appearance, and a genuine respect for the diverse community the organization serves, including children, families, and staff.
BlueSkies for Children nurtures a multicultural environment and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and beliefs. The organization emphasizes professional support and educational growth for its employees, offering competitive salaries, employer-matched IRA contributions, paid sick and vacation leave, and promoting a healthy work-life balance. As a part-time receptionist, you will be an integral part of an empathetic, cooperative office team that contributes meaningfully to a vibrant early childhood education setting. This role is especially suited for adaptable, detail-oriented individuals who enjoy meaningful work in a people-oriented environment and who thrive on flexible and diverse tasks. Dependability and promptness are valued highly, as is the ability to work independently, take initiative, and respond to changing priorities with a positive attitude.
