Job Description
KIPP Baltimore is a distinguished non-profit network of college-preparatory public charter schools serving elementary, middle, and high school students within Baltimore City. Established in 2002 with the launch of KIPP Ujima Village Academy middle school, KIPP Baltimore has expanded its reach with the addition of KIPP Harmony Academy in 2009. Together, these schools currently educate over 1,500 students from kindergarten through eighth grade, ensuring access to high-quality, free public education for all children in Baltimore. As part of the broader KIPP network encompassing 255 charter schools nationwide, KIPP Baltimore is dedicated to creating joyful and academically excellent schools that empower students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to pursue higher education, successful careers, and fulfilling lives.
KIPP Baltimore's mission extends beyond classroom instruction by providing sustained support through programs such as KIPP Through College, guiding students from their time at KIPP schools toward admission to competitive high schools and success in post-secondary education. This commitment reflects the organization's holistic approach to education—one that includes family and community partnership aimed at fostering equity, justice, and lifelong achievement for its students.
This role is for the position of Receptionist, which offers an important frontline presence within the school environment. The Receptionist is the first point of contact for parents, visitors, and other stakeholders entering the building, representing the welcoming and professional face of KIPP Baltimore. Reporting directly to the Director of Campus Operations, the Receptionist is entrusted with a variety of responsibilities centered around managing the reception area, ensuring its appearance, organization, and smooth operation.
The primary duties encompass managing telephone communications efficiently, greeting and signing in visitors, handling outgoing and incoming mail and packages, and providing general administrative support. The Receptionist also assists with administrative overflow by handling data entry, word processing, and providing support to school leadership as necessary. This role demands excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and an ability to multi-task while maintaining professional composure.
Working part-time, the Receptionist is a vital member of the KIPP Baltimore team, contributing to an environment that prioritizes student success and community engagement. A strong alignment with KIPP Baltimore's values—including zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor—is essential. Compensation for this role is competitive at $15.05 per hour, reflecting the organization's commitment to offering fair wages for vital staff roles.
