Job Description
The American Red Cross is the world’s largest humanitarian network, dedicated to helping millions of people annually through disaster relief, blood donation, health and safety training, and supporting military families, among other life-saving missions. Established as a leading nonprofit organization committed to providing compassionate care and emergency services, the American Red Cross strives to alleviate human suffering both domestically and internationally. The organization fosters a diverse and welcoming environment where employees are empowered to grow their careers with a strong sense of purpose and are recognized for their dedication and impact. The American Red Cross is celebrated for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality, ensuring all employees and volunteers are respected for their individuality and contributions. With a mission centered on service to humanity, this organization offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive workplace culture that values work-life balance and employee wellbeing.
The role of a QC Lab Technologist at the American Red Cross is vital within the organization’s blood services division. This position involves performing complex laboratory testing and manufacturing processes on blood products to ensure they meet stringent quality and safety standards before being released to hospitals for patient use. The QC Lab Technologist will be responsible for preparing and manufacturing pathogen-reduced platelet products in a highly regulated environment, requiring strict adherence to protocols and meticulous attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have a strong customer-service focus, exhibiting compassionate treatment towards both internal and external customers while maintaining the highest quality standards. This role is a part-time position on the third shift, requiring availability mainly from Friday through Monday nights, with a requirement to train full time on the day shift for approximately 8-10 weeks. Compensation for this role is competitive, offering $24.97 per hour plus applicable shift differentials.
In this role, candidates will be engaged in moderate to high complexity laboratory testing, interpreting test results, identifying nonconforming products, and ensuring the suitability of blood products for distribution. Responsibilities include meeting production and testing goals, participating in troubleshooting activities alongside cross-functional teams, and maintaining accurate inventory records of blood products, reagents, and testing kits. Physical demands of the job include standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and potentially working in refrigerated environments while adhering to required safety protocols. Candidates with certifications such as MLT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) have an added advantage though it is not mandatory. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross, advancing your career in a focused, supportive, and mission-driven work environment.
