Job Description

Michaels is the leading destination for all things creative and a premier retail company specializing in arts and crafts supplies. Operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, Michaels offers a wide array of products for crafting, home décor, framing, floral, and seasonal projects. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as a trusted brand that fuels the joy of creativity and celebration for both individuals and families. Alongside its retail stores, Michaels supports online shopping through its websites and also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of specialty framing merchandise. The company strongly emphasizes its commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity, and providing a positive environment for its Team Members and customers alike. Michaels invests in the wellbeing of its employees by offering comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, for both full-time and part-time Team Members.

This role centers around the dynamic position of Event Coordinator within a Michaels store located in Columbus-Graceland, Ohio. The Event Coordinator's primary responsibility is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes, enhancing the in-store shopping experience by providing a fun and stress-free atmosphere for guests of all ages. This position demands a customer-focused individual who enjoys interacting with guests, delivering friendly and efficient service, and fulfilling operational tasks that support the store's functionality. The coordinator plans multiple events simultaneously, oversees event setup and breakdown, and ensures that all activities comply with company standards, including cleanliness and safety. They also manage administrative duties such as communicating with clients and team members, handling event-related paperwork, and adjusting plans to meet client needs. Beyond event coordination, the role extends to supporting customer experience throughout the store by helping customers locate products, assisting in checkout and enrollment procedures for rewards programs, and facilitating online ordering processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS).

The position requires strong multitasking skills, creativity, organizational abilities, and interpersonal communication. Event Coordinators demonstrate craft project instructions, perform face painting, and manage additional party features such as goody bags and balloons. They uphold the store's brand promises by maintaining merchandising standards, participating in receiving deliveries, stocking, and supporting shrink and safety programs. The role also includes cross-training in custom framing sales and production to enhance versatility.

This is a retail environment with physical demands including standing for extended periods, lifting boxes, and using ladders. Candidates should be enthusiastic, have good people skills, experience with children's events, and the ability to handle job stress while maintaining a positive and respectful demeanor. The compensation for this position ranges from $11.00 to $13.00 per hour. Michaels prioritizes creating an inclusive work environment and provides reasonable accommodations to candidates with disabilities. Team Members play a vital role in creating a memorable and joyful shopping and creative event atmosphere that aligns with Michaels’ mission to fuel creativity and celebration for all its customers.
