This part-time position offers a flexible option for individuals seeking occasional supplemental income while engaging with a dynamic role that blends consulting and technical execution. The Onsite IT Consultant works directly with a variety of small to medium-sized businesses to enhance their efficiency by ensuring the proper usage and implementation of current technologies. It requires professionals with strong consultative skills combined with robust technical troubleshooting capabilities. The position involves frequent onsite visits to client locations, typically within a metropolitan area, to provide hands-on support and technology deployment.\n\nThis job does not guarantee fixed hours. Rather, it involves recurring assignments at client sites with variable frequency depending on geographic location and customer density. The hourly rate is $30, paid even during travel to the customer site, and a minimum flat rate of $100 per job is guaranteed. Requests for service usually occur during business hours but can occasionally arise after hours, with ultimate flexibility to accommodate the consultant’s availability. This role offers an excellent balance of autonomy and customer engagement that suits candidates comfortable operating independently yet aligned with company standards of professional communication and thorough technical documentation. The consultant will collaborate with remote technical personnel to resolve computer and network issues, implement new technology solutions, and analyze customer support needs to recommend appropriate technologies. Job Requirements

  • At least one year of relevant IT experience
  • strong diagnostic skills for hardware and software issues
  • proficiency with Windows operating systems and server environments
  • experience with Active Directory and Exchange
  • network troubleshooting skills including switches, routers, and TCP/IP configuration
  • effective communication and customer service abilities
  • ability to work independently and handle variable scheduling
  • residing near the target Metro Area for onsite visits

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience diagnosing and fixing hardware and software issues for desktops and servers
  • experience installing and troubleshooting WinXP, Windows7, Win2003/2008 Server, Active Directory, Exchange, DNS
  • end-user and help desk experience in MS Office Suite and common desktop applications
  • experience troubleshooting network issues related to infrastructure such as switches and routers
  • ability to configure TCP/IP settings and troubleshoot TCP/IP issues
  • certifications such as A+, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP, CNE, CCNA are a plus but not required
  • residing within close proximity to the relevant Metro Area

Job Duties

  • Visit customers in the Metro Area when onsite presence is needed
  • troubleshoot and resolve computer and network problems with assistance from remote personnel
  • implement new technology with assistance from remote personnel
  • identify technology solutions based on analysis of customer support needs
  • maintain strong and consistent communication with customers
  • document work performed and technical information for clients
