The Local is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled kitchen team member to join our back-of-the-house operations. This role is pivotal as it ensures that all food preparation, quality control, and kitchen cleanliness uphold the high standards our guests expect. As a critical member of our culinary team, you will work closely with the executive and sous chef, assisting in a variety of daily tasks essential to the smooth operation of our kitchen.

In this role, you will be responsible for adhering to recipes and quality standards, preparing vegetables, poultry, meats, and seafood using diverse cooking methods and kitchen equipment such as ovens, broilers, fryers, and grills. You will manage and stock your assigned food stations to ensure availability and quality during service times. Part of the position requires inspecting food for quality, making necessary requisitions, and following food safety and sanitation regulations strictly. Keeping workstations clean and organized, assisting with food preparation during off-peak hours, and aiding in kitchen closing procedures are also key functions.

Your performance will directly impact customer satisfaction and the overall success of The Local brand. The starting pay for this position is up to $17.00 per hour, depending on your experience level. This role requires flexibility with shifts, including the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and sometimes extended hours. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess strong communication skills, a commitment to ethical work principles, and the ability to perform well in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while maintaining a positive attitude.

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Come to work on time and prepared for your shift in proper uniform
  • quickly become efficient in specified preparation of all menu items
  • follow a given recipe and quality standard and prepare various food items including vegetables, poultry, meats, and seafood using different methods and equipment such as oven, broilers, fryers and grills
  • stock and manage assigned food station(s) and ensure quality of food served
  • physically inspect and monitor all food from kitchen and make requisitions for food items and supplies
  • adhere to company policies, cooking methods, standard portion sizes, kitchen rules and quality standards
  • ensure sufficient food stock at line stations for smooth service
  • portion food products before cooking by following recipe standards
  • maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations including kitchen equipment
  • keep to proper garnish setup and plate presentation
  • inform food servers of ticket times and attend to guest orders promptly and politely
  • properly store, rotate, and manage food products following guidelines and procedures
  • assist in food prep tasks during off-peak periods
  • ensure proper kitchen closure by following closing checklists and help others close kitchen
  • fill in as needed for smooth operation per management directions
  • attend scheduled employee meetings and contribute suggestions
  • perform other duties as assigned by management
