Windsor Public Schools is a respected educational institution committed to fostering a safe and enriching learning environment for students. Serving the Windsor community in Connecticut, the district strives to maintain high standards in both education and support services to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students. Windsor Public Schools values equality and inclusivity, adhering strictly to policies that prohibit discrimination on any unlawful basis. This commitment to diversity extends not only to students but also to staff, ensuring a supportive and respectful workplace for all employees. The district operates multiple schools and facilities, with a dedicated team to support educational and operational excellence across the board.
This job opening is for a Food Services position based at Windsor High School, where the employee will work under the supervision of the Food Service Assistant or higher-grade Food Service Coordinator. The role involves performing various semi-skilled duties related to preparing and serving meals within a school cafeteria setting. The importance of this position lies in providing nutritious meals to students and staff, contributing significantly to their overall health, wellbeing, and ability to focus on their academic activities. Responsibilities include portioning food correctly, helping with meal preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, weighing, and portioning fruits and vegetables, and ensuring all food handling and kitchen standards are meticulously maintained. This role also demands excellent interpersonal skills since the employee interacts directly with students during meal service to help them make food choices.
Additionally, the role requires maintaining sanitary conditions, cleaning, and taking care of kitchen equipment and dishwashing duties. Staff meetings and in-service trainings are mandatory parts of the role, ensuring continuous professional development and compliance with school district policies. The Food Services position is essential to the smooth operation of the school meal program and plays a crucial role in supporting student nutrition and school community health. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in educational environments, value teamwork, and want to make a positive impact on students' day-to-day lives through food service.
The position is semi-skilled and requires physical stamina due to duties that include lifting up to 40 pounds and constant movement during shifts. Transportation requirements include having a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle since the employee might be temporarily assigned to other school locations as needed due to staffing shortages. Windsor Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer, upholding principles of non-discrimination and inclusivity in all employment practices. This role offers not only the chance to contribute to a meaningful cause in education but also to work within a dynamic and supportive school community.
