Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a growing e-commerce platform accessible via Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a maker of custom and specialty framing merchandise, emphasizing its commitment to creativity and personalized customer support. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration and supports a diverse workforce through an inclusive culture and comprehensive benefits. With a strong presence in the retail sector, Michaels has built a reputation for being the best place for all things creative, offering customers unique and quality products for their creative projects, home décor, and celebrations.
The Store Team Member role based in Thornton, Colorado, at Michaels is a pivotal front-line position that focuses on delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining an engaging and well-organized store environment. This full-time role emphasizes assisting customers throughout their shopping experience, from helping them locate products and providing personalized solutions, to ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience. Team members participate actively in merchandising duties such as unloading trucks, stocking shelves, and managing the general recovery of the store to keep it visually appealing and well-stocked according to company standards. Additionally, the role supports Omni-channel retail efforts including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) operations, which are critical to seamless modern shopping.
Store Team Members at Michaels are entrusted with responsibilities extending beyond sales assistance, including promoting the company’s Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, facilitating customer enrollments, and educating customers about the Voice of Customer (VOC) survey to enhance service quality. The position requires adherence to company policies related to shrink reduction, safety programs, and standard operating procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and operational requirements at all times. Interaction with customers and fellow team members must be conducted in a respectful, positive manner, reflecting the company’s values and setting a professional example within the store. Cross-training opportunities such as custom framing sales and production further enrich the role, giving team members the chance to develop additional skills relevant to the creative retail environment.
The physical demands of the position include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, frequent bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, stretching, and using equipment like ladders for accessing high shelves. Team members may work in a climate-controlled retail environment with certain areas such as stock rooms and frame shops having varying conditions. Hours may vary and include nights, weekends, and early mornings to meet operational needs. Michaels supports its employees with competitive hourly wages ranging from $15.16 to $17.70, with eligibility for overtime compensation as allowed by state and local laws. The company also underscores its commitment to workplace inclusivity, encouraging applications from individuals who meet federal, state, and local legal employment standards and offering reasonable accommodations as needed. Applying early is encouraged as interviews for qualified candidates may begin ahead of the official application deadline, which remains open until September 5, 2026.
