Job Description

The City is seeking a dedicated Front Desk Associate to join its team, focusing primarily on public contact by efficiently addressing program registrations, assisting walk-in visitors, and managing telephone inquiries in a courteous and professional manner. As a Front Desk Associate, you will serve as an integral point of contact for citizens and customers, providing information, answering questions, and helping to facilitate various community programs and services. Working for a city government environment means you will have a critical role in ensuring that all interactions with the public reflect the city's commitment to high-quality service and community engagement.

The City operates various community centers and facilities that host a wide range of programs and events, serving diverse groups of people. This role requires tact, patience, and outstanding communication skills to interact successfully with the public, city staff, directors, elected officials, and other stakeholders. The Front Desk Associate must establish and maintain positive working relationships with both team members and the general public. This role mostly involves afternoon and weekend shifts, accommodating the busiest hours when citizens are more likely to visit or contact the community center.

This is a part-time position, offering approximately 28 hours per week, with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour. While the position does not offer benefits or paid time off, it provides valuable experience in public service and community engagement within a local government context. The posting for this role remains open through December 31, 2026, allowing for an ongoing candidate pool that can respond to current or future vacancies as they arise.

Key responsibilities include greeting and assisting the public, providing information about available programs, accepting registrations and fees, and helping customers understand facility regulations and policies. Additionally, the role involves preparing spaces for events, recording and managing facility rentals, and reporting any unsafe conditions, injuries, or incidents to senior staff. Flexibility is essential, as the associate must be available to work weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to meet operational needs. Other duties may be assigned to support the smooth functioning of the community centers.

Candidates for the Front Desk Associate must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with Office365 programs is required, along with the ability to type at least 60 words per minute and use a calculator accurately. Strong customer service orientation and reliability with good attendance are crucial to fulfilling the responsibilities of this role. Candidates will also need to pass a post-offer background check, physical examination, and drug screening to ensure a safe and trustworthy working environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to serve the community, develop professional skills, and be part of a local government team dedicated to enhancing citizens' experience through excellent service and support.
