Job Description

Akima Infrastructure Protection (AIP), a subsidiary of Akima, is a distinguished Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) dedicated to delivering exceptional federal management and operational services. Unlike typical federal contractors, AIP stands out due to its unique mission that deeply intertwines with the support and empowerment of its shareholder communities in Alaska. The company directly benefits approximately 15,000 Iupiat shareholders who reside in some of the most remote and challenging environments in the United States. This connection shapes the organization's values and commitment, making it a company where the work done is significantly meaningful and impactful beyond conventional commercial interests.

AIP’s operations include providing trained personnel, equipment, and processes essential for safeguarding federal assets. Their service portfolio encompasses protective services and detention management operations that cater to critical mission demands. The company emphasizes a working environment enriched by innovation, diversity, and a supportive culture. Employees at AIP enjoy comprehensive benefits, competitive compensation packages, and multiple growth and retirement options, which underscore the company's dedication to attracting and retaining highly qualified professionals.

The Food Service Worker role based in Brownsville, Texas, is a vital position within AIP's operational framework. This role involves actively participating in the kitchen operations of a large industrial detention center. Under supervision, the food service worker takes on a variety of duties spanning from meal preparation to delivery, ensuring that all food service activities comply with dietician-certified menus and safety standards. Tasks include preparing ingredients, assembling menu items like sandwiches, plating and serving meals to detainees and staff, packaging sack lunches, and handling deliveries using a box truck. Additionally, the role demands responsibility for receiving food orders, unloading trucks, and maintaining food storage areas across dry, cold, and freezer conditions.

The scope of work extends to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in various kitchen and dining areas, including cleaning dishes (both manually and mechanically), floors, tables, chairs, grease traps, hoods, and storage areas. The food service worker is also expected to adapt to other facility cleaning duties as directed by management, ensuring a hygienic and safe environment. Core competencies such as commitment to excellence, customer service orientation, adherence to safety and security protocols, teamwork, and embodying corporate values are integral to this role.

Applicants for this position must possess fluency in English, both oral and written, and demonstrate the ability to effectively follow instructions, recipes, and safety regulations. The job also requires physical stamina to work extended periods standing and performing food service tasks in an indoor detention facility setting, with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions when delivering food outdoors. A comprehensive understanding of kitchen operations, food safety compliance, and the ability to work in a culturally diverse environment is essential for success in this role.

Overall, this position is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a rewarding career with an organization committed to making a meaningful difference while offering a stable employment environment with room for advancement. Candidates who are organized, dependable, and passionate about delivering quality food service in a demanding yet rewarding environment are encouraged to apply.
