Known for its commitment to food safety, quality, and customer satisfaction, the dining service team is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment that supports the university's mission and values.

The Part Time Food Service Worker position at Purdue University Northwest Dining Services is designed for individuals passionate about food service and eager to contribute to a positive dining experience on campus. This part-time role involves working approximately 19 hours per week, focusing on daily food preparation, serving, and maintaining cleanliness in various dining locations. Though benefits do not apply to this position, it offers invaluable on-the-job training and exposure to professional food service operations within a university setting.

In this role, candidates will be responsible for assisting with washing, cutting, and preparing ingredients following standardized recipes and production sheets, ensuring consistency and adherence to quality standards. You'll be involved in food service tasks such as serving from counters or steam tables, ensuring proper portion control, and paying close attention to dietary restrictions and allergen information. Maintaining rigorous food safety practices, including proper labeling, dating of prepped items, and adherence to HACCP guidelines, is vital to this position.

Additionally, the Food Service Worker will help maintain cleanliness by sterilizing utensils, equipment, and work areas, completing dishwashing duties, and keeping temperature logs and cleaning checklists up to date. Customer interaction is a key aspect, requiring a friendly and professional demeanor when greeting customers, assisting with orders, and providing information about meal plans or dietary accommodations. The role also involves collaboration with the culinary team to ensure effective communication and support for dietary needs.

The job requires physical stamina, including standing for extended periods and handling weights ranging from 25 to 60 pounds, demanding both endurance and strength. Candidates must complete food handler training and certification and participate in safety briefings to ensure a safe working environment. Experience in food service, whether in restaurants, cafeterias, or prior experience with PNW Dining Services, is beneficial but not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided.
