Job Description

John Boner Neighborhood Centers (JBNC) is a respected community organization dedicated to fostering a thriving, connected neighborhood on Indianapolis's Near Eastside. JBNC has built a reputation for creating programs and services that enhance the quality of life of local residents by focusing on health, education, and community engagement. Their Fitness Zone is an integral part of the Boner Fitness & Learning Center, offering a welcoming and supportive environment for community members to improve their health and well-being. The center is designed to be accessible and friendly, encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in fitness and wellness activities that nurture both body and mind.

The role of Fitness Zone Receptionist at JBNC presents a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about community health and wellbeing to make a direct impact. This position is part-time and onsite at the Boner Fitness & Learning Center, with working hours scheduled Monday through Friday between 5:15 am and 10:15 am, allowing for a routine that supports early-day operations. As the first point of contact for all members and visitors, the receptionist plays an essential role in shaping the first impression of the facility, making hospitality and friendly communication key components of the job.

The successful candidate will be responsible for greeting members with warmth and professionalism, managing membership signups, providing information about various classes, programs, and services, and ensuring the facility is organized and inviting. This role also involves handling phone communications, resolving inquiries politely and efficiently, and promoting membership growth through tours and sales. The Fitness Zone Receptionist must build positive relationships with both members and staff, fostering a pleasant and inclusive atmosphere. Additionally, this person will assist in scheduling and supporting program coordination, helping maintain the smooth operation of fitness and wellness services offered by JBNC.

With a preferred qualification of 1 to 3 years of customer service or sales experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and basic computer literacy, the ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, community-focused fitness environment. Prior experience in fitness or wellness, working with youth, or bilingual abilities are advantageous but not required. Availability to work during the morning schedule and on some weekends ensures alignment with community needs and the facility’s operational hours. Employment at JBNC requires a background check and adherence to equal opportunity principles, reflecting the organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

This position offers a meaningful chance to contribute to the wellness and vitality of the Near Eastside community through direct engagement and customer service. Working at JBNC means becoming part of a larger mission to nurture healthy lifestyles and connected neighborhoods, making this role both a career-building opportunity and a chance to give back to the community. As such, the Fitness Zone Receptionist role is ideal for motivated individuals eager to support a positive, healthy community space while developing skills in customer relations, sales, and program coordination in a welcoming environment.
