Job Description

As a member of the City of Temple team, Event Staff play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and success of events held at the Convention Center. Reporting to the Event Coordinator, Event Staff assist with a variety of tasks ranging from event set up and tear down to custodial and maintenance duties. This position requires flexibility in working hours, including availability during days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with a commitment of approximately 25 hours per week.

The role involves direct interaction with event attendees and customers, providing support and technical assistance to ensure a seamless experience for all participants. Event Staff are responsible for preparing and executing sound and lighting setups, arranging seating and tables, maintaining cleanliness throughout the facility, and addressing any issues that may arise during events. They also assist with on-site coordination and help monitor events to ensure they run smoothly from start to finish.

Successful candidates will have at least two years of high school education and six months of experience in customer service or a related field. Basic knowledge of facility maintenance is preferred, along with a valid driver’s license. Additionally, new hires are expected to obtain scissor lift and forklift certification within six months of employment, reflecting the City’s commitment to safety and professional development.

Job Duties

  • Supports the set-up and breakdown of event spaces
  • assists with on-site coordination, addressing any issues or concerns that may arise during events to ensure smooth event flow
  • prepares and executes sound and lights, set-up and removes tables and chairs
  • maintains cleanliness of building and grounds such as spills, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms etc., as required
  • assists events team with assigned tasks
  • provides technical support for events including A/V and lighting
  • assists customers during move-in/out as needed
  • opens the building for event set up and closes building after event tear down
  • monitors assigned events to ensure smooth operation, performing general cleaning duties like trash removal
  • interacts professionally and positively with the public and customers, adhering to department customer service standards
  • adheres to facility appearance guidelines and city handbook policies
  • assists others when necessary and/or requested
  • follows city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • performs other duties as assigned
