The department is committed to preserving the unique historical and cultural assets of Lansing, such as the Turner Dodge House, a historic site that serves as a focal point for community gathering and education. As part of its ongoing efforts, the City of Lansing is seeking a dedicated Part Time Event Manager for the Turner Dodge House. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that fosters community engagement through diverse events and programs.

The position requires a minimum commitment of 18 hours per week, with flexibility to work up to 40 hours depending on the event schedule. The contract lasts until June 30, 2027, with the potential for renewal based on department leadership’s discretion.
In this role, the Event Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of event coordination at the Turner Dodge House. This includes developing and implementing comprehensive event packages tailored to this historic venue, assisting with city-wide interpretive programs, and organizing special events such as classes, tours, and outreach activities that enrich the cultural tapestry of the community. The manager will oversee staffing logistics, ensuring smooth operation from event setup to cleanup, while also managing volunteers and contractual employees.
Marketing and public relations are integral to this position. The Event Manager will craft and execute marketing strategies aimed at maximizing community participation and awareness of the Turner Dodge House programs. Duties include creating brochures, handling media interviews, and representing the site at various arts and humanities organizations to foster partnerships and visibility.
The administrative responsibilities of the position are broad and critical to the success of the venue and its programs. These encompass maintaining accurate financial records, processing payments, generating reports, and procuring necessary supplies and equipment. The Event Manager will also play a key role in long-term planning by setting goals and objectives that align with the department’s mission and ensuring the upkeep and readiness of the Turner Dodge House.
This role requires a valid driver’s license and adherence to the City of Lansing’s driving standards, as travel between work sites may be necessary. Importantly, the City of Lansing values diversity and inclusion and is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Certified Veteran Friendly Employer, committed to providing reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities.
