Job Description
The Minnesota Orchestral Association, home to the renowned Minnesota Orchestra, is a leading cultural institution dedicated to enriching the community through outstanding orchestral performances and engaging arts experiences. Operating from the iconic Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, the Association fosters a vibrant artistic environment where music lovers and cultural enthusiasts come together to celebrate exceptional performances that inspire and educate. The organization is committed to providing not only world-class music but also excellent patron experiences that uphold the highest standards of customer service and operational excellence. As a non-profit arts organization, the Minnesota Orchestral Association emphasizes community engagement, diversity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of its programming and operational services.
This part-time position within the Audience Services Department plays a pivotal role in supporting the Minnesota Orchestra's mission by overseeing the smooth execution of events sponsored by the Minnesota Orchestra and its Association. Reporting to the Director of Ticket & House Services, the Audience Services Manager is critical in maintaining exceptional service standards, managing event staff, and ensuring patrons enjoy a memorable and comfortable experience. The role requires overseeing the preparation, staffing, and performance of all Audience Services during concerts and events, guaranteeing optimal event conditions and high-level customer service. Responsibilities extend beyond simply managing staff; the manager shares accountability for the Department's daily operations, contributing to ongoing improvement efforts through participation in strategic meetings and planning sessions.
Key duties include staffing oversight, ensuring ticketing and seating are handled courteously and efficiently, handling emergency medical situations as needed, supporting event security, and reconciling event sales and inventory. The Audience Services Manager also provides direct supervision and coordination of staff assigned to Ticket Services, Stage Door, and House roles, ensuring workforce capabilities align with event demands. This role requires high integrity, effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage confidential information responsibly. The ideal candidate exhibits a proactive leadership style, acting as a role model and driving team performance through clear goal-setting and targeted coaching.
The work environment is dynamic, with duties performed onsite at Orchestra Hall, occasionally outdoors for concerts, and that may involve standing, sitting, handling various objects, and managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Scheduling is flexible based on concert and event calendars, with shifts commonly taking place between 5:00 AM to midnight, including weekends and holidays. This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20 to $30, reflecting experience and qualifications, and requires availability for a minimum of four shifts per month with no more than 32 hours scheduled weekly. The Minnesota Orchestral Association values diversity and inclusivity and is committed to equal employment opportunity for all qualified applicants, regardless of background or personal characteristics.
