The Bakery Team Member role at BJ's Wholesale Club is crucial in maintaining the quality and presentation of all bakery products offered to members. This position involves duties such as proofing and baking unfinished goods, packaging freshly baked items, decorating special orders, and ensuring adherence to safety and cleanliness standards within the bakery department. The team member is responsible for following detailed bakery production charts and product handling information to meet quality and quantity benchmarks. Additionally, the role demands excellent customer service skills to address any member inquiries and to provide recommendations. Working in collaboration with other team members and adhering to company policies, the Bakery Team Member helps create a positive, safe, and inviting environment for both members and colleagues. This role requires agility, positive attitude, and accountability to uphold BJ's Wholesale Club's GOLD standards — which include greeting, anticipating, and appreciating members, along with maintaining fast, friendly, full, fresh, and clean store environments. Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
previous experience in bakery or retail environment preferred
age 18 or older
ability to lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally with assistance heavier items
ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing
willingness to work in temperature-varied environments including freezers and ovens
commitment to following food safety and handling procedures
flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays
strong attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards
regular, predictable, full attendance required
ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers
adherence to company policies and procedures
positive attitude and willingness to collaborate as part of a team.

Job Qualifications

Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred
knowledge of bakery products preferred
at least 18 years of age
ability to operate bakery equipment safely
strong communication and customer service skills
ability to follow production charts and safety procedures
teamwork and collaboration skills
ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
reliable and responsible with good attendance record
positive and friendly attitude
adaptability to fast-paced work environment.

Job Duties

Answer questions and recommend bakery items
Answer member calls and take special orders
Proof and bake all unfinished bakery goods by following product handling information using ovens and equipment
Use bakery production charts as a guide for production and display needs
Package freshly baked goods including cookies, pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, cakes, and other items
Decorate special orders or case products
Rotate and store bakery products following food safety, freshness, and product handling policies
Receive, inspect, and store bakery shipments
Ensure all products are fresh and meet company quality standards
Check for out-of-date products daily and follow salvage and stale product policies
Generate labels and price tickets for bakery goods and perform price checks
Clean and sanitize equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces in the bakery
Operate and handle bakery equipment using proper methods according to safety policies
Maintain club policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned including working in other departments if needed
Maintain regular, predictable full attendance
Maintain a friendly and positive attitude
Work collaboratively and support club standards
Innovate and adapt to changes quickly
