Job Description
Kandel Transport, Inc. is a well-established regional and long haul OTR contract motor carrier headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Founded in 1959 as Kandel Produce Co., it originally specialized in produce transportation and evolved into a comprehensive temperature-controlled transportation service provider. Today, Kandel Transport operates a fleet of over 60 company-owned tractors and services an extensive market area spanning from Boston to Chicago, including the Great Lakes States, New England, and parts of Canada such as Montreal and Toronto. This strategic location enables Kandel Transport to efficiently manage refrigerated, frozen, and dry van freight, catering primarily to manufacturers of frozen foods, dairy products, fruit flavorings, clothing, and retail markets.
Kandel Transport takes pride in delivering high levels of customer service supported by safe, well-maintained equipment and professional drivers. The company provides a variety of specialized transportation services, including refrigerated truckload hauling, dry van truckload hauling, deep frozen and ice cream transportation, contract dedicated runs with just-in-time service, customer pick-up loads, dropped trailer service, refrigerated trailer rental, local pickup and delivery, and re-delivery of loads. These comprehensive service offerings highlight Kandel's adaptability and commitment to meeting diverse customer transportation requirements.
The transportation industry demands reliability, safety, and efficiency, and Kandel Transport embodies these principles. The company’s ongoing expansion with terminals and yards in locations such as Fort Wayne, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Syracuse, NY, demonstrate its growth and dedication to connecting the Midwest and Eastern regions of the U.S. and Canada. This expansion enhances Kandel’s ability to provide timely distribution and logistical support across its broad service area.
As a company offering flexible employment arrangements, Kandel Transport hires full-time, regional OTR, long haul OTR, local, part-time, and on-call drivers. Part-time drivers play a vital role by managing freight surges and providing relief for full-time and regional drivers. The company values drivers’ preferences by offering both regular weekly runs and on-call positions, catering to diverse schedules including retirees seeking occasional work. Driver compensation is mileage-based, supplemented by additional applicable pay components, with weekly payments made via direct deposit. While benefits are not provided to part-time drivers, full-time positions may offer more comprehensive compensation packages.
The role of a driver at Kandel Transport goes beyond simply moving goods from point A to point B; it involves representing the company’s commitment to quality service, safety standards, and customer satisfaction. Drivers operate state-of-the-art refrigerated and dry van equipment that aligns with the company’s dedication to preserving product integrity and adhering to rigorous safety practices. Working with Kandel Transport means becoming part of a company with a long history of growth, strong industry knowledge, and an ongoing mission to meet the evolving needs of customers in temperature-controlled freight transportation.
In summary, Kandel Transport, Inc. is a trusted transportation provider with over six decades of industry experience, offering specialized refrigerated, frozen, and dry van hauling services across a wide geographic region. The company boasts a large, modern fleet and a dedicated workforce that supports its reputation for reliability and excellent customer service.
