Job Description

Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, providing valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 students each year. This established organization offers a wide range of positions in various fields including technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality management, leadership, and research grants. Students employed here benefit from Cal Poly Pomona's renowned learn-by-doing philosophy, gaining practical skills that align with their academic studies. The Enterprises also contribute operating support to nearly 1,100 Enterprises and scholarship programs annually, such as Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. Additional responsibilities of the Enterprises include administering grants and contracts, enhancing campus security, and supporting multiple university publications. This role is for a Crew Member position under general supervision, designed as an excellent opportunity for individuals to develop their customer service skills, work as part of a team, and foster professional growth in a dynamic environment. The Crew Member's primary responsibilities revolve around assisting with various tasks in a fast-paced dining setting, specifically focusing on dishwashing and maintaining sanitary kitchen conditions. Key duties include operating commercial dishwashing equipment, sorting and efficiently loading dishware, ensuring compliance with sanitation and health code standards, and maintaining cleanliness of kitchen areas. This role also involves waste management duties such as trash and recycling removal and restocking clean dishware and utensils for kitchen and serving stations.

Crew Members are required to monitor dishwashing chemicals and report any supply shortages or equipment malfunctions to supervisors, emphasizing the importance of maintaining operational efficiency. The role demands adherence to rigorous food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines, with a need to maintain a fast-paced workflow during peak dining hours. Team collaboration is essential to ensure smooth dining hall operations, and candidates must be able to provide courteous and professional behavior within the campus environment. Flexibility in availability is required, including the willingness to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed. Job Duties

  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, trays, pots, and pans
  • sort, scrape, rinse, and load dishware efficiently to maintain steady workflow
  • ensure all items meet sanitation and health code standards before returning to service
  • maintain cleanliness and organization of dish room and surrounding kitchen areas
  • remove trash and recycling, and transport waste to designated disposal areas
  • restock clean dishware, glassware, and utensils in serving and kitchen stations
  • monitor dishwashing chemicals and report low supplies or equipment issues to supervisor
  • follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines
  • maintain a fast-paced work environment during peak dining hours
