Job Description
Middlesex Community College (MCC), established in 1970, is a prominent educational institution dedicated to providing affordable and accessible education to individuals aiming for academic excellence, workforce readiness, and lifelong learning. With campuses located in Bedford and Lowell, MCC serves a diverse student population and offers a wide array of services and programs designed to meet the educational and developmental needs of the community. MCC is deeply committed to transforming lives by educating, challenging, and supporting students to become productive, socially responsible members of both local and global communities. The college emphasizes a supportive work environment that attracts, rewards, and retains talented faculty and staff, empowering them to deliver quality education and robust student support services. Their dedication to fostering an inclusive educational atmosphere is visible through their strategic initiatives and comprehensive course offerings, including a strong online presence that expands access to education regardless of geographical constraints.
The Part-Time Day Cleaner role available at MCC is a critical support position within the Facilities department. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Building Services, this part-time employment opportunity is designed for individual candidates who are committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment on either the Lowell or Bedford campus. This role involves day-to-day cleaning responsibilities including maintaining the cleanliness of common areas such as lobbies, hallways, restrooms, break rooms, and entrances. The cleaner is responsible for performing tasks such as managing spills, emptying trash and recycling bins, spot cleaning floors, windows, walls, and surfaces, and ensuring that floors are swept, mopped, vacuumed or waxed as necessary. The position also includes responsibilities related to restocking supplies, reporting maintenance issues, and providing customer service by interacting professionally with staff and visitors.
This position is part-time, scheduled for approximately 20 hours per week, with working hours and days to be determined upon hire. The salary for this role is $17.75 per hour, in accordance with the Middlesex Community College Part-Time Wage Schedule. The role requires candidates to have the ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, kneeling, lifting up to 25-50 pounds, and completing repetitive cleaning duties effectively and with attention to detail. Previous janitorial or custodial experience is helpful but not mandatory, making this an excellent opportunity for those seeking flexible work hours within an educational setting. The college encourages applicants to submit a cover letter, resume, and references online and is committed to fair hiring processes including thorough background checks for final candidates. The position offers a chance to join a vibrant community focused on education and service quality where employees feel supported and empowered.
