Job Description
Beatitudes of Our Lord Parish is a community-focused religious establishment dedicated to serving its congregation through spiritual enrichment, worship, and community engagement. The parish serves as a gathering place for worship, ministry activities, and various community events that foster faith and fellowship among its members. With a commitment to maintaining a welcoming and safe environment, Beatitudes of Our Lord Parish seeks to uphold the integrity and cleanliness of its facilities to ensure a positive experience for all who visit. The parish includes multiple buildings such as the church itself, Msgr. Marron Hall and Kitchen, parish offices, as well as exterior areas like patios, landscaping, and parking lots. Each of these spaces plays a vital role in the varied functions and activities hosted throughout the year.
The role of Part-Time Custodian/Janitor at Beatitudes of Our Lord Parish is an essential and responsible position focused on maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational integrity of the parish’s physical environment. This part-time position requires someone who is dedicated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. The custodian will undertake daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and cleaning restrooms across all parish facilities. Additionally, the role involves minor maintenance repairs as directed by the Business Manager, ensuring that all facilities remain fully functional and safe for parishioners and visitors.
This position is integral in preparing and setting up spaces for regular worship services as well as special events and community gatherings held within the parish. Responsibilities extend beyond cleaning to include securing buildings by locking/unlocking doors, setting alarms, and patrolling the premises to prevent unauthorized access or potential hazards. The custodian is also responsible for managing cleaning supplies inventory and restocking as necessary to maintain consistent upkeep standards.
Specific responsibilities include maintaining the church facilities by cleaning and dusting religious shrines, pews, and windows, as well as resetting emergency exit lights and managing water main valves and water heater maintenance on a monthly basis. In the Msgr. Marron Hall and Kitchen, the custodian cleans restrooms, vacuums carpets, cleans kitchen surfaces, and arranges furniture according to event needs. The parish offices require similar maintenance tasks to keep administrative areas clean and welcoming.
The custodian also manages outdoor maintenance to ensure that patios, walkways, and parking areas remain clean and orderly. Weekly surveys of the interior and exterior facilities for needed maintenance are mandatory to promptly identify and address any issues, reporting findings to the Business Manager.
Ideal candidates will have prior custodial or janitorial experience, with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely. Strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and the ability to follow instructions independently are critical. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the life of the parish community by ensuring a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for all who come to worship and participate in parish activities. The position provides the chance to work within a supportive team dedicated to the parish’s mission and values. Employment is part-time, with wages aligned to internal pay policy considering experience and qualifications.
