The part-time Culinary Arts Instructor role at SUNY Niagara's Culinary Arts department is critical in supporting the mission of the Hospitality Operations department and facilitating academic excellence in the Culinary Arts program. This exempt position offers competitive remuneration at $1,008 per lecture hour and $903 per lab hour. Reporting to the division chair/AVP of the Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts Division, the instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality course content for academic classes. Work hours include Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with variable timing, located at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute campus.

Candidates are expected to actively participate in face-to-face interviews including Q&A sessions, lesson planning, and hands-on skills demonstrations. The role emphasizes supervising, training, and teaching students in applied settings while maintaining proper inventory controls, contributing to curriculum development, utilizing curriculum management data for effective scheduling, and leveraging digital platforms like Blackboard and Starfish to enhance student communication and retention. This position requires effective attendance tracking, completion of census reports, and reporting on student learning outcomes and grades at semester end.

Ideal candidates will have obtained an Associate's degree in Culinary Arts coupled with supervisory experience in an upscale restaurant setting and hold ServSafe certification. Additional desirable qualifications include advanced degrees in related fields, professional culinary certifications, extensive industry experience, and teaching expertise. Essential functions emphasize strong organizational skills, excellent communication, teamwork, and the ability to accommodate diverse student populations, including those with disabilities. This position demands physical capability to perform teaching duties and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

  • three years full-time teaching experience or part-time equivalent in a culinary arts program (desirable)
  • experience in developing and assessing course and program student learning outcomes (desirable)
