Job Description

The Alpha Kappa Chapter is a well-established collegiate organization that values community, tradition, and excellence. It is part of a national fraternity that emphasizes brotherhood, scholarship, leadership, and service. The chapter house is a vibrant living and social space where members live, learn, and collaborate. Maintaining a welcoming and supportive environment is a priority, which includes providing nutritious and well-prepared meals to its members. The Alpha Kappa Chapter takes pride in fostering an atmosphere that supports the academic and personal growth of its collegians, creating a home away from home during the academic year.

The Alpha Kappa Chapter is actively seeking a dedicated Cook to join their team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all food served is prepared to high standards of quality and safety. The Cook will be responsible for managing the entire process of food preparation and kitchen maintenance while adhering strictly to sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards. The position requires approximately 16 hours of work per week, timed with when the students are in residence, making it a part-time role well-suited to someone who enjoys culinary work within an educational or communal setting.

This job entails more than just cooking. The successful candidate will also be charged with coordinating menu planning, managing food orders for both daily meals and special events, and ensuring proper inventory control. The Cook will work under the supervision of the House Director to maintain an efficient and balanced food budget, ensuring the proper use of supplies and minimizing waste and loss. The role also demands responsibility for the cleanliness and order of the kitchen and food storage areas, ensuring all kitchen equipment is used safely and properly.

The ideal Cook will have prior experience with high-volume food service, making them adept at preparing meals for groups in a timely yet careful manner. A valid ServSafe certification is a must, reflecting a professional commitment to food safety. While a culinary degree or certification is preferred, a high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The position does not involve travel but demands a hands-on and proactive presence in the kitchen to support the day-to-day operations of the chapter house.

Working with the Alpha Kappa Chapter means being part of a community that encourages personal and professional development alongside collegiality. It presents an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful chapter experience by nourishing students with thoughtfully prepared meals and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment. The Cook’s role is essential in supporting the chapter’s mission to provide a nurturing and structured environment for its members.
