Part-Time Cook (Food Service)

The role of the part-time cook involves a mixture of food preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning responsibilities which are critical to the smooth operation of the school’s food service programs. Essential duties include sanitizing food preparation areas, prepping food items following health and safety codes, assisting in the breakfast program, carrying out cashier responsibilities, managing inventory and supplies, and maintaining accurate records, including posting daily lunch account deposits using the PowerSchool system. The cook also regularly interacts with the Food Services Director, school administration, teachers, and students, which emphasizes the need for strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Candidates in this role are expected to follow standard operating procedures precisely and must exhibit a strong interest in cooking and supporting children's nutritional needs. Additionally, this position may require occasional coverage for other staff or the lead cook, which could involve working at different locations within the district. Because of this, having reliable personal transportation is a necessary requirement. The job also demands physical stamina to lift and carry up to 36 pounds, push or pull weights up to 100 pounds, and move trays and supplies safely and efficiently. Good vision and hearing are important for effective communication and safety during food preparation.
