Job Description

Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS) is a well-established nonprofit, faith-based organization headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. Since its founding in 1955, PHS has built a solid reputation as a leader in providing high-quality housing, care, and service options tailored specifically for older adults. With over 8,000 employees serving more than 41,800 seniors across 60 affiliated senior living communities in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, as well as through Optage® home and community services, PHS remains dedicated to promoting independence, purposeful living, and holistic well-being among the older adult population. They also co-own Genevive, the largest geriatric primary care practice in Minnesota, which offers comprehensive care to more than 15,500 older adults. As one of the largest nonprofit senior housing and service providers nationally, their mission centers on honoring God by enriching the lives and touching the hearts of older adults through Christian ministry values.

Waverly Gardens is one of the welcoming and vibrant communities managed by PHS, located just 15 miles north of St. Paul, Minnesota. Waverly Gardens offers a range of care options including Assisted Living, Assisted Living with Memory Care, Enhanced Assisted Living, and long-term Care Center services. The scenic location near lakes, trails, and parks provides residents with beautiful surroundings that support an active and engaging lifestyle.

The role of Part-Time Cook at Waverly Gardens is ideal for someone passionate about preparing nutritious, appealing, and high-quality meals that contribute to residents’ overall experience and well-being. Scheduled for approximately 16 hours per week, this position requires working shifts of 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., including every other weekend rotation, providing flexibility and balance for individuals seeking part-time employment. The cook’s primary responsibility is to create and serve meals that are consistent with applicable state and federal food handling standards while supporting PHS’s mission-driven culture of care and community. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a close-knit team that values collaboration, respect, and empowerment of aging adults.

Employees at Waverly Gardens benefit from a supportive work culture with amenities such as off-street parking, discounted employee meals, free fitness center access, and regular employee recognition events, fostering both personal and professional growth. Pay for the position ranges between $21.00 to $22.64 per hour depending on qualifications and market factors. Although the role is part-time, PHS provides access to valuable benefits including vision insurance, voluntary short-term and long-term disability, accident and hospitalization coverage, educational assistance, and paid time off accrual. The organization promotes a safe and inclusive environment where all employees, residents, guests, and volunteers feel welcome, providing an enriching workplace that resonates with faith-based values and a commitment to service excellence.
