Job Description

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected, and secure children, adults, families, and communities. Serving the Middle Tennessee region, the YMCA offers a broad range of programs including youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility initiatives. With a rich history and deep community ties, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee provides safe, inclusive environments that promote physical activity, learning, and personal growth for all ages. The organization holds a vital role in supporting families and children throughout the year, making a positive impact through accessible, high-quality childcare and educational services.

Currently, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee is seeking part-time Before School Childcare Assistants to join their School Age Services team. This role focuses on supporting the development and well-being of children at various schools within Montgomery County’s 101st Community including Freedom Elementary, Kenwood Elementary, Ringgold Elementary, and West Creek Elementary. Unlike seasonal or temporary jobs, these positions require commitment throughout the entire 2026–2027 school year, making them ideal for candidates looking for steady employment and a chance to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives before the school day begins.

As a School Age Services Site Assistant, you will play a critical role in leading and engaging children aged primarily between 5 and 12 years old in fun, safe, and stimulating activities. The work shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., providing a structured before-school care environment that supports children’s social, emotional, mental, and physical development. You will be entrusted with creating child-friendly program spaces and maintaining cleanliness while implementing curriculum guidelines aligned with YMCA standards.

This position provides a unique opportunity to work directly with children in a dynamic, supportive atmosphere alongside other YMCA staff and school personnel. Your role will include fostering positive relationships with families and ensuring compliance with site licensing and quality standards. The YMCA strives to hire individuals passionate about youth development, with a focus on safety, learning, and community impact. The pay starts at $15 per hour, with potential increases based on childcare experience listed in your application or resume.

The ideal candidate for this position is enthusiastic, organized, and team-oriented. You should enjoy an active role working with children, possess strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and multitasking ability, and be prepared to handle the physical demands of the job such as lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and spending time outdoors regardless of weather conditions. This hands-on role is perfect for someone who derives satisfaction from positively influencing children’s daily experiences and contributing to their growth in a supportive community environment.

By joining the YMCA of Middle Tennessee as a Before School Childcare Assistant, you are not just taking a job — you are joining a mission-driven organization that is dedicated to empowering the next generation. Through your involvement, you will help provide children with positive early routines, enriching activities, and a safe space to begin their school day confidently. If you have a passion for working with youth and are committed to ongoing employment during the school year, this opportunity offers a fulfilling part-time position to make a lasting difference in your community.
