Job Description

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility throughout the Middle Tennessee region. As a community-focused entity, the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) offers a wide range of programs and services designed to support the physical, mental, and emotional growth of individuals and families. The YMCA strives to create inclusive, welcoming environments that empower people of all ages to improve their quality of life in a supportive setting. Serving a broad demographic, the organization is highly respected for its commitment to community engagement, youth mentorship, and providing safe spaces for children and adults to thrive. With multiple program locations throughout Montgomery County and neighboring areas, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee continuously works to enhance its impact while upholding its core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Part-time Before and After School Childcare Assistants for our School Age Programs, primarily serving schools in Montgomery County's Southside Community. These schools include Cumberland Heights Elementary and Montgomery Central Elementary. This is a part-time position with shifts scheduled Monday through Friday, covering both before school (6:30 am to 8:30 am) and after school care (2:00 pm to 6:00 pm). Unlike seasonal or temporary roles, this position offers stable employment throughout the school year (2026-2027), providing an opportunity for consistent engagement with children in a fun, safe, and well-supervised environment. The pay starts at $15 per hour, with potential for increases based upon relevant childcare experience submitted in the application and resume.

The role of a School Age Services Site Assistant at YMCA is vital in supporting children’s development by actively engaging them in a variety of social, physical, spiritual, and cognitive activities. As a Childcare Assistant, you will be responsible for leading groups of 15 to 20 children, fostering a nurturing environment where youth can grow in multiple dimensions. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, organized, and genuinely passionate about working with children, helping them to develop life skills within an inclusive and supportive community. This position requires collaboration with YMCA staff, school personnel, and families to ensure alignment with program goals and compliance with licensing and quality standards. Additionally, the role demands physical stamina and alertness, as it involves standing, bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, and supervising children both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

By joining the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in this role, individuals will have the rewarding chance to make a positive impact on young lives daily. They will contribute to a high-quality curriculum grounded in YMCA values, ensure safe and engaging program spaces, and build meaningful relationships within the community. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking a meaningful career in childcare and youth development, or anyone eager to bring enthusiasm and care to the lives of children during critical developmental periods.
