Job Description
The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a well-established nonprofit organization committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Known for its strong presence in the Middle Tennessee region, the YMCA offers a variety of programs designed to help individuals and families improve their quality of life. With a rich history of supporting wellness and education, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee maintains a mission to not only promote physical health but also foster social and emotional growth among children and adults alike. By facilitating safe, inclusive, and engaging environments, the YMCA provides opportunities for personal growth and community connection that span all age groups and backgrounds.
Currently, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee is hiring Part-time After School Childcare Assistants to support its School Age Services in the LaVergne area of Rutherford County. This position serves multiple elementary schools including LaVergne Lake Elementary, Rock Springs Elementary, and Roy Waldron Elementary. This is a part-time role, not temporary or limited to summer employment, with shifts Monday through Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm. Starting pay is $15 per hour, with the possibility of higher wages depending on childcare experience demonstrated in the applicant’s resume or application.
The role of a School Age Services Site Assistant, also described as a Part-time After School Childcare Assistant, is dynamic and impactful. Candidates will be directly responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating atmosphere for children after school hours. This includes actively leading and engaging groups of 15 to 20 children in a range of planned activities designed to promote development in social, physical, spiritual, and mental capacities. The Assistant will also be in charge of setting up and transforming program spaces into child-friendly environments, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to YMCA standards.
Beyond facilitating activities, the assistant will support the implementation of a YMCA-aligned quality curriculum, emphasizing youth development principles. Building positive relationships is a core part of this role, requiring effective communication and collaboration with YMCA staff, school personnel, and families. Compliance with licensing and quality standards at each site is vital, ensuring children’s safety and program integrity. The position demands an energetic individual who is not only passionate about working with children but also detail-oriented and capable of multitasking in a busy after school setting.
Candidates should be prepared to work in a variety of conditions, including spending time outdoors, standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds. The ability to see and hear children clearly and quickly respond to safety concerns is essential. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in youth development careers, offering a meaningful way to contribute to the community while gaining valuable experience in childcare and education sectors. Joining the YMCA of Middle Tennessee means becoming part of a dedicated team that positively influences the next generation by providing high-quality care and education beyond the traditional school day.
