Job Description

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a well-established nonprofit organization committed to fostering the growth and development of individuals and communities through various programs and services. Known for its core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, the YMCA has been a vital part of the Middle Tennessee community for many years. It provides inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their physical, mental, and social wellbeing. With a wide range of programs that include youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility initiatives, the YMCA continues to set a benchmark in community service and recreation. Its mission revolves around strengthening communities by nurturing the potential of children, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility among residents.

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is currently hiring for the position of Part-time After School Childcare Assistant within its School Age Services. This opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about youth development and eager to contribute positively to the lives of children after the school day ends. This position serves several schools within the Davidson County Nolensville Road-Brentwood community, specifically at A.Z. Kelley Elementary, Granbery Elementary, and Shayne Elementary. This is a part-time role with work hours from 2pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday, and is not a temporary or summer-only position, emphasizing long-term engagement and consistency for the children served.

The starting pay for this role is $15 per hour, with potential increases depending on the candidate's childcare experience reflected in their application or resume. The role is centered around creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment that supports children's growth socially, physically, spiritually, and mentally. Candidates will actively lead and engage groups of 15-20 children in both indoor and outdoor activities, transforming program spaces into child-friendly environments while upholding cleanliness and safety standards. They will help implement a quality curriculum aligned with YMCA guidelines, fostering positive relationships with YMCA staff, school personnel, and families. Maintaining the site licensing and quality standards is a fundamental part of the responsibilities, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and organizational expectations.

This position demands an individual who enjoys working in an active environment, can multitask effectively, and has strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Certifications including CPR, First Aid, and AED (infant/pediatric) are required within 30 days of hire, alongside mandatory administrative requirements such as orientation, background checks, fingerprinting, and training sessions before the first shift.
