Job Description

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities by nurturing the potential of every child and teen, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility. As part of the global YMCA movement, the Middle Tennessee branch offers a variety of programs focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility across Davidson County. They provide a safe and supportive environment that encourages growth in multiple dimensions including physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. Their commitment to community enrichment and youth empowerment has made them a trusted institution for families looking for after school programs and childcare services in the Charlotte Pike-Bellevue area of Nashville, Tennessee.

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is currently hiring part-time After School Childcare Assistants specifically within their School Age Programs. These positions serve children attending schools in the Davidson County Charlotte Pike-Bellevue Community, including Gower Elementary, Harpeth Valley Elementary, Nashville Classical West Elementary, and Westmeade Elementary. This role is a part-time opportunity with consistent hours Monday through Friday during after school care from 2pm to 6pm, making it ideal for individuals looking for meaningful work in childcare beyond just temporary or summer-only employment. The pay range starts at $15 per hour or higher based on prior childcare experience.

The role of a School Age Services Site Assistant involves actively leading and engaging groups of 15 to 20 children in planned activities both indoors and outdoors. The assistant helps create and maintain a clean, child-friendly environment that supports the developmental goals outlined in YMCA's curriculum guidelines. This position is fundamental in ensuring that quality programming and licensed standards are upheld at all times. In addition to directly working with children, the role includes building positive relationships with other YMCA staff, school personnel, and families to support a holistic approach to youth development. The ideal candidate enjoys staying physically active with children, is well-organized, enthusiastic, and able to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. The job requires physical ability to see, hear, and quickly respond to children’s needs, lift up to 40 pounds, and comfortably spend time standing, bending, and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Candidates interested in this role must be at least 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and possess strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Certification requirements include completing orientation, background checks, fingerprinting, abuse registry checks, health forms, and training sessions before the first shift. Within 30 days of hire, certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED specific to infant and pediatric care must be obtained. This is a rewarding opportunity to impact children’s lives positively while being part of a supportive, community-focused team. If you are passionate about youth development and seek a stable part-time role in childcare with the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, apply today to join a community dedicated to empowering the next generation.
