Job Description

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Serving a broad and diverse population, the YMCA has a long-standing reputation for offering quality programs that nurture children and families in Davidson County and beyond. Known for its welcoming environment and commitment to fostering growth in all individuals, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee provides numerous services, including after-school care, summer camps, and various community outreach initiatives. Their mission focuses on promoting a safe, supportive environment where children can develop socially, physically, spiritually, and mentally. Within the Donelson-Hermitage-Old Hickory community, the YMCA provides critical after-school services at various elementary schools such as Andrew Jackson, Dodson, Hickman, Pennington, Ruby Major, Stanford Montessori, and Tulip Grove, reflecting its dedication to accessible, localized support for families and children.

The role of Part-time After School Childcare Assistant within the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s School Age Programs is integral to the organization's ongoing commitment to youth development. This is a part-time position offering consistent employment throughout the school year, with shifts Monday through Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm. The hourly pay starts at $15 and can increase based on relevant childcare experience. This role is not a summer-only or temporary position but a vital part of the after-school programming team. Childcare Assistants are trusted to actively engage and lead groups of 15 to 20 children, guiding them through structured activities aligned with YMCA’s quality curriculum. The position requires dedication to creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment where children feel encouraged to grow in multiple facets of their development.

Childcare Assistants will help transform program spaces into welcoming, child-friendly environments while maintaining the cleanliness and safety standards consistent with site licensing requirements. The role demands collaboration with YMCA staff, school personnel, and families to foster strong relationships and ensure a cohesive, supportive atmosphere. Moreover, successful candidates demonstrate physical stamina and readiness to be active with children, including the ability to stand, bend, lift up to 40 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. This position is designed for those passionate about youth development, possessing strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment. Overall, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in the Donelson-Hermitage-Old Hickory community throughout the academic year.
