Job Description
The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, located in South Dakota, is a reputable law enforcement entity committed to serving and protecting the community with integrity and professionalism. The office operates with a strong focus on community engagement, safety enforcement, and ensuring that legal and civil processes are handled efficiently and justly. Known for its progressive approach to law enforcement and for maintaining high standards of public service, the Sheriff's Office is an integral part of the county's overall public safety framework. Employing a diverse and dedicated team of professionals, the department offers opportunities for individuals seeking to contribute meaningfully to their community while advancing their careers in law enforcement and administrative roles.
Currently, the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is offering a unique employment opportunity for a Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server. This part-time role provides a flexible work schedule, allowing the selected candidate to set their own hours from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. With an anticipated workload of approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, this position is ideal for individuals seeking part-time employment that offers both flexibility and consistency. The successful candidate will be entrusted with an essential public safety and legal function—serving warrants and executing civil court orders within the county.
In this position, the Certified Civil Process Server will serve a vital role by facilitating the lawful and timely delivery of an array of legal documents, ensuring due process is observed. Responsibilities include serving court orders, subpoenas, garnishments, property executions, commitments, show-cause orders, and protection orders. The role demands a high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and adherence to legal protocols to ensure the validity and enforceability of the served documents.
This is more than a routine delivery position; it involves engaging with the public, attorneys, businesses, and law enforcement agencies tactfully and respectfully, often in complex or sensitive situations. The server must maintain a high standard of customer service and professionalism at all times, while also fulfilling the statutory requirements mandated by the state. Handling this role safely and effectively requires that the server carry a firearm in compliance with agency policies, which underscores the serious nature and potential risks associated with the duties.
Candidates interested in applying for this position should note the essential qualifications and requirements, including being a Certified Law Enforcement Officer, meeting all South Dakota state certification standards, and possessing a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Physical readiness and the ability to pass a medical examination, along with drug testing, are mandatory to maintain both personal safety and operational readiness. The role also demands strong communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to maintain composure and a professional appearance under varying circumstances.
Joining the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office as a Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server provides an excellent chance to play a pivotal role in the local justice system. With a flexible work schedule and the opportunity to engage directly with the community, this role blends public service with personal and professional development. The department's commitment to equal employment opportunity further emphasizes a welcoming and inclusive environment for all applicants.
