Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer in North America, dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a robust online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further cementing its position as the best place for artists, crafters, and hobbyists seeking quality creative products and services. Michaels is renowned for its dedication to customer satisfaction, creative inspiration, and community engagement, offering a diverse range of arts and crafts supplies, framing options, home décor, and seasonal products that cater to a wide spectrum of creative interests.

The available part-time Store Associate position at the Abilene, Texas location presents an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and contributing positively to the shopping experience. As a Store Associate, your primary focus will be to assist customers in finding the products they need while embodying the brand’s promise of fast and friendly interactions. You will be responsible for executing efficient checkout processes, including adhering to cash handling standards, and engaging customers with the store’s rewards program and private label credit card enrollments. A key part of your role will involve participation in the store’s truck unloading and merchandising activities to ensure that the store remains well-stocked, aesthetically pleasing, and aligned with corporate planograms.

In this dynamic role, you will also support the store’s omnichannel operations, including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes, enhancing the integrated shopping experience for customers who prefer digital and physical retail options. Your duties will extend to maintaining merchandise recovery, handling returns, and optimizing stock displays to maximize store inventory availability. Safety and loss prevention are critical components of your responsibilities, requiring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and company policies to create a secure shopping environment for both customers and team members.

Michaels places a high value on teamwork and positive workplace culture. As a Store Associate, you will be expected to interact respectfully with colleagues and customers alike, fostering an inclusive atmosphere that reflects the organization's core values. The role also requires some specialized cross-training in custom framing sales and production, giving team members unique skill development opportunities.

Physically, the position demands the ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive bending, lifting, and stretching motions, and handle heavy merchandise stocking tasks, sometimes at elevated heights using ladders. The work environment is primarily indoors with well-controlled climate settings for customer zones, whereas stock rooms and some outdoor tasks such as cart retrieval may involve different conditions.

Michaels offers an engaging work setting where creativity, customer service, and operational excellence align. Team members in this role can expect competitive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts that support overall well-being and professional growth. This part-time position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced retail settings and desire to contribute meaningfully to a company that celebrates imagination and community spirit. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Michaels is committed to inclusion and reasonable accommodations for all qualified individuals, ensuring a supportive and diverse workforce that reflects the customers and communities it serves.
